| RudiNicole (77), Michigan | | March 26, 2012 Really great selection. The beer section is clean, organized, and welcoming. They are priced very well, and I had lots of staff offering to help me. Singles, 6/4 packs and bombers/750s were all easy access and visible. This store officially made its way into my regular bottle shop routine. | | KickInChalice (20), Chicago, Illinois | | February 17, 2012 After getting this as a suggestion from some Michigan BA’s, I stopped in while I was in town last week. It turned out to be an incredible recommendation.
This is set up as a specialty grocery store, with a vast selection of wine and beer as well. Coming from Chicago, I was looking to try out the selections from Short’s and other locals, but their overall selection is just incredible. They have a good selection of nationally distributed craft beers, but I was most impressed by the selection of singles. There not many places that really break up six packs into singles around where I live, so I was able to grab a huge selection of beer without committing to a whole pack.
Having a singles selection like this absolutely made the trip worth it for me, but the positives don’t stop there. I noticed the prices on some bombers and six packs were cheaper than they would cost at home. The beer is stored far away from light, so I never have to worry about it being lightstruck. Also, they get enough traffic and do enough volume that everything they have in stock seems fresh.
Ashley, their resident beer expert, is just a great guy. He had responded to my thread about places to go with very detailed information, and it was a pleasure to talk beer with him in person at the store. He is very knowledgeable, friendly, and has great recommendations.
Holiday just became my regular bottle shop whenever I am in town seeing my cousin, and I would recommend it to anyone.
Overall, just a great experience. Good prices, great beer, great service. I guess you could call me a fan. | winejab (4), Ferndale, Michigan does not count - explanation | | January 20, 2012 A great selection with fair prices. Another store that sells the quantity to demand the hard to find, limited release, items. Service is very competent, if a little stuffy. | | Dogbrick (423), Columbus, Ohio | | January 1, 2012 Holiday Market is located on the south end of Royal Oak on South Main. There is a large parking lot for customers.
The beer section is located in the rear of the store and is cleanly displayed in a couple aisles. The beer is segmented geographically, including by "East Coast", "West Coast" and imports.
As for the beer selection, it numbers in the hundreds with lots of domestic craft breweries like Great Lakes, Keweenaw, Shorts, Dark Horse, New Holland and Saugatuck. Many bombers too from Avery, Goose Island, and Bear Republic too. Many imports to choose from Belgium, the UK, Germany and Canada too. Mixed singles are available as well.
Service is above what you expect from a grocery store. The people working in the beer area were very friendly and courteous and clearly take pride in the display and care of the stock.
Overall this place is my kind of store, reminiscent of favorites like West Point Market in Akron or Hills Market in Columbus. Definitely worth a stop for any beer fan or someone who likes a quality grocer. | | Johnsense (33), , | | November 27, 2011 [ Updated January 1, 2012 ] Loads of fresh fruit and veggies as you walk in. Store is quite big. Seems to be the hip place to shop in Royal Oak. Macros in the cooler, but a good selection of MI craft beer and representatives from both coasts. Fair number of bombers, a lot of 6 packs. Bells, Founders, Shorts, Dark Horse, New Holland, Dragonmead, Arcadia, North Peak, etc. Sam Adams Barrel series was there, Ditto Stone Vertical Epic, Rogue, Bear Rep. etc.Great prices on the Jolly Pumpkin bombers. Fairly good selection of imports - JW Lees, Tremens, Sam Smith, Rochefort, etc. Cheap glasses. The better store is up the street but if you get to town Sunday after 5 Holiday is the way to go. | | mikem409 (40), bloomfield, Michigan | | November 18, 2011 very nice selection of beer/wine/mead/sake/booze. thee price on a lot of stuff is cheaper then the brewery | | paintedmaple (36), Fenton, Michigan | | July 29, 2011 I hadn’t been here in years - just forgot about it really. Went there today and - WOW - was I impressed. Enormous selection of beer and booze attractively and intelligently and dare I say - lovingly displayed. I was on my lunch hour from the office and though hungry - and with no shortage of really tasty looking food everywhere - I spent the hour looking at the beer. | | jrallen34 (207), Chicago, Illinois | | March 31, 2011 On my Royal Oak beer hunt stopped by here after Cloverleaf, awesome these are so close together. This place has two really long rows of beer, mostly Michigan staples with other American craft, didn’t see or ignored what international stuff that was there. The selection is pretty good, focused on Michigan but has some of the harder to find ones, a couple rare Jolly Pumpkin, fix Short’s, several Dark Horses etc. Some singles but most are 6 packs, so not as accessible as Cloverleaf. Service was decent, seemed busy and more interested in helping regulars than anyone else.
A good store but I wouldn’t come here with Cloverleaf so close unless I was getting groceries as well. | dasabijempivo (3), Michigan does not count - explanation | | May 30, 2010 I live in HW and shop here at least once a week. I am not aware of a store in the area with bigger selection of Belgians save for Embassy, and Sicilliano’s in Grand Rapids with reasonable prices.I don’t understand people bickering about prices, the bottle of good craft beer costs 10-15 $, there is no sense in squabling about few cents here and there even if you buy 5 or more bottles. One stop shop for me. | Hengest (4), Troy, Michigan does not count - explanation | | February 16, 2010 Worth a visit. Decent selections of beers from around the world, at room temp. and in coolers. A good wine selection too. Some beer companies, Bell’s for example, are very well represented. Also a good section for continental European beer, they have a particularly lovely Sticke Altbier from Dusseldorf I haven’t seen elsewhere. Just a little pricey, but you get what you pay for, I guess. The staff has been consistently helpful as long as I’ve been going there and will give you a break on case prices if you ask. Also, they’ve volunteered to order in beers they don’t currently carry if they can get them from their distributors. |
