This restaurants is one of San Diegoís oldest brew pubs though itís beers are now brewed at San Diego Brewing. They last brewed their own when at the previous location across the street. I walked in and could not decide whether the theme was sports bar or casino, and when I left my confusion persisted. I ordered a few íhouseí beers and an appetizer, both of which I later regretted. I appreciate that this place was an early entrant into the craft beer movement but they seem stuck to the 1990ís quality standards. There were a few other micros on tap but that is not enough for me to return.

Restaurant/Sports bar combination. Lots of seating and tvís throughout the building. Service was slow but friendly. The wings and pizza was good. Nice guest tap list. I only had 1 house beer, it was pretty good.

Visited after the Veritas release with womenecantsail on a brewery hopping trip around SD.

This is a restaurant combined with sports bar. TVs and a bar and eing inside of a strip mall means there is plenty of parking. The place wasnít all that full in the middle of the afternoon on a Saturday but there were some dedicated locals there drinking the house beer. The service was friendly and brought us a sampler. The beer was middle of the road, perhaps a bit sub par even. The best one was the Peep Show Pale Ale. Thatís right, itís made with peeps, those marshmallow bunnies that people sometimes give away on Easter or sometimes microwave so that they grow, but rarely eat. The beer was pink, bright freaking pink. And it was surprisingly decent. I donít see myself going back here often but the novelty of the peeps might be enough for me to take someone there.

More of a sports bar feeling than anything, but oh well. A handful of house beers on and quite a few guest taps as well. House beers ranged from bad to halfway decent. Service was fine, as were prices.

Saturday afternoon. Place is fine. Bit sterile, maybe. 5-6 of their beers on tap, but none looked very interesting. I had unrated New Belg. and Widmer Bros. brews. Fish and chips were absolutely swimming in oil. Iíd really like to find a British style chip shop here. And I donít get how restaurants serve Kraft boxed mac n cheese! Cmon man, cook some real food already. Service was good. Eh.

I want to like this place. The old meeting spot for QUAFF meetings and they hosted our BJCP classes. So I was there once a week for months. I just canít dig their food. The salad is OK, but the rest is just average. Beer selection varies, at one point they had zero IPAís on tap...this is San Diego! They are in conjunction with San Diego Brew Co, so you can get growlers filled at either spot. Both are far from me, so itís not a major stomping ground. Def I give it an .... eh...

(Visited 05/2008): Callahanís is north of San Diego in the Mira Mesa area, a couple miles from both the 805 and the 15. They have a private lot, plus they are in front of a strip mall that has additional parking. The place looks like a cookie cutter Irish/sports bar. The bar is in the rear directly opposite the entrance. The rest of the space is for table seating. They have chalkboards up showing all the beers available. As for the beers, Callahanís only had 2 of their own beers available out of the 25 taps. Aside from macros, other highlights were from Bear Valley, Coronado and Green Flash. The bottle selection looked pretty standard. Callahanís beers were fairly average overall. The bartender was familiar with both Callahanís and guest draughts enough to describe what they were. The food was pretty good as well. I had a teriyaki chicken dinner and it was competent. Overall I would try checking this place out again on the condition that they had more of their own beers available.

Nice sports bar slash irish pub. Lots of tvs, with a nice bar as a central location. Wide open dining area with sightlines all around the pub. Very good sevice, the bartender kept checking up on us frequently. Decent selection of beers, about 5 regulars and 2 seasonals. Real good food, had the Tri tip special, very good. Overall a pretty good place.

Decent bar. Irish themed. The food was edible and the beer was ok. Overall, though, the place didnít quite click with me.

Above average brewpub. Went there for my first QUAFF meeting, Sitting next to outstanding homebrewers and Alesmith brewers, etc. Typical american restaurant food. I think itís association with excellent brewers keeps itís beers good and underrated.
