Took the wife out for some German fare. I had the sauerbraten and she had the schnitzel. The food was excellent but a tad pricey. Final bill including drinks and tip came to 80.00. There were ten German taps easy plus macros and there were probably another dozen bottled German brews available. I had a Paulaner Hefe on tap, it was excellent but I was disturbed that the waiter shoved a lemon wedge in it. The service was average at best, our waiter seemed annoyed that he had to serve us. Overall: If you are looking for authentic German food in San Diego this is your place.

Took my wife out for a nice "different" kind of night out. Cozy atmosphere inside the main restaurant-basically an old house converted to a restaurant. Comfy. Nice selection of German beers. The hefe tasted better than any other I’ve ever had. To me it seemed like the freshest I’ve had, and that’s why it was so good. Food was great if you like meaty goodness. Nice sides too.

Went to watch the 2010 WC quarter finals: Germany vs Spain (0-1). The place was packed but still well serviced. They had a special menu of typical German food, which was good. Their draft selection is mainly German beers and they also had a good bottled beer selection available. There is a small and cozy Biergarten great for having a nice Helles.

FREE happy hour mini buffet Tue-Fri with crispy wings, German potatoes and meatballs. Discounted pitchers and pints. Biergarten is a fun alternative to the dining rooms. It gets uncomfortably hot in the winter, due to the fact that there are twenty space heaters in the relatively small space. Servers are knowledgeable about the beer, but service is relatively slow. Better to get a pitcher to split with a friend than two pints, or you’ll be sitting staring at your empty glasses for quite a while. Food is outstanding. Personal favorites include goulash soup, giant pretzel, sea schnitzel (squid steak), and potato pancake. There are doubtful any other spots in SD with this many German brews under one roof. Last I went, they had 3 pils, 2 marzens, a few lagers, a krolsch, an alt, a bock, and maybe a couple others. Good stuff. Closed Mondays.

For German food and beer in San diego, this is the place. Located just when you get into Ocean Beach, it’s on the left. Parking is also available in the back. Authentic sauerbraten as well as weinerschnitzel. Entrees are a bit pricey. Happy Hour is worth it, $2.50 pints.
