18th March 2014, walked here from The Monkey Paw Brewpub. Modern and minimalistic interior with the bar all along the left wall as you enter. Wood used a lot in the design. We sat just inside with the window wide open so we could feel the evening air cooling. Two flights for me, the wife drinking wine. Beers were diverse and interesting with some heavy hitters (alcohol wise) within the selection on offer. Mostly local stuff, but of course all new to me, being a Brit on tour. Service seemed fine, we were left alone and didnít have any food. All in all a pleasant place to watch the world walk by while sipping a beer or three, it was eight actually! At $10.00 a flight I though a bit expensive, but when you factor in the strength of some (4 at 10% ABV) I suppose it was OK.

Good beer bar in a convenient location. Clean, up-to-date. Medium-sized. Nice range of local breweries and general CA stuff. A guy can buy a flight here, which is great. Average prices, fair service. A good option for this part of town.

Fun, crowded gastropub in the middle of the gaslamp district in downtown SD. Nice decor, friendly staff. Great place to get out of the rowdy mayhem outside. Larger, solid craft beer tap list with a focus on local southern CA stuff: Mission, Stone, Alesmith, Ballast Point. Tap list I donít think is updated online. Food looked great but we didnít eat here. Craft cocktails were solid. They do sampler flights which is nice. Good place to drop by if going out in the gaslamp district but Neighborhood is a better beer bar.

This place is decent. What I like: custom samplers, half-interesting draft list, good sweet potato fries. What I donít like: the crowd, the indifferent servers, the half-interesting draft list. On the worldwide spectrum, this feels like a beer bar that isnít trying that hard. For this particular neighborhood, itís above average, but Iíd probably direct oneself to the The Local for a better selection of interesting local beer.

Standard but nice re-use of an old downtown building for a bar. Friendly and knowledgeable bartenders provided just the right amount of attention on two separate nights. Selection was not the best in the area, but still had very good local representation. They also let the customer select the beers for flights and mark them well; while some other nearby places with more choices have pre-selected flights only! Food (only had appetizers) was surprisingly good for being in the heart of a tourist area.

Located amid the uber-touristed Gaslamp District, the Hopping Pig is a recent entry to the San Diego beer scene Ė not that it really needed another place Ė and was Stop 5 on my SDBW 2012 visit. It is a single room with a high ceiling and dimmed lighting; on the left, there is a long bar on that takes up nearly the entire space. Opposite is the requisite row of high-top tables. The tap selection is made up of about 30 local drafts, which included Ballast Point Sculpin, Greenflash Friendship, Mission Dark Seas and several other smaller brewers. (Decent flights are available.) Service was excellently provided by an affable and generously tattooed server, who was knowledgeable about the beers and the famous craft scene. While I would not make it a point to spend too much time in the area Ė although many of the 19th Century buildings were pretty cool, I did make it a point to stop by twice (Stop 5A?). Another decent place to grab some great San Diego beer.

Went here on a Saturday night and it wasnít too crowded which actually attracted us inside. Many other places were swamped. Once inside we were waited on right away the music was loud but at least we could hear each other talk. Picked up a beer sampler for about $9.00 and they were well marked which was nice. Wouldnít mind going back.

Nice pub with a good selection of many craftbrews. Flights are available for $9 for 4. Not many people were there, but maybe that was because I visited on a sunday.

Nice dark bar with knowledgable and attentive staff at the bar. Nice tap list of local beers including Ballast Point and Green Flash stuff. I had the Crispy Pork Belly and it was gross. Donít get it. Other food was okay. When in San Diego I wouldnít seek this place out, but if you are in the Gas Lamp District it is a fine stop.

Really nice selection of Stouts and a tap list that does a great jod representing the local brews. The Gouda Burger and Crispy Pork Belly are a must try. The decor is a mix of rustic and urban with exposed brick, old wood, industrial touches and some interesting lighting.
