| Snojerk321 (38), San Diego, California | | January 30, 2009 [ Updated April 28, 2009 ] Overall a pretty fun place to hang out and watch the game. The key is to go on Mondays during football season and hit up Johny Browns then for the second half hit up the Local, just a couple block separate the 2. Food is decent, beer selection is as well. | | DuffMan (96), the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta | | December 2, 2008 Surf boards and plasma TVs. Dozen or so quality taps, with another dozen or so bottles. Typical pub fare, but excellent quality. Friendly service. | | JoeMcPhee (262), Jackson Heights, New York | | October 27, 2008 Sort of a divey looking sports bar located right downtown. Loads of TVs all tuned to different stations. Long wooden bar with a sort of tropical kitschy decor. Friendly and efficient bartender. The drink specials are pretty awesome (Monday all local draughts - $3) and the fish tacos are pretty tasty. It’s not the nicest place, but it’s in a good location and it’s pretty decent. | | Beese (50), Watford, England | | September 6, 2008 Not a bad selection of beers at The Local, not much that was particularly special, mind, although I did read the last review on here which states that they’ve gone up to 20 taps. Pretty good food at affordable prices, frankly this is more of a place to go and eat well at a good price whilst having a nice beer or two than a real beer geek hang-out. Good place, though. | CanuckSD (1), California does not count - explanation | | June 4, 2008 Just increased to 20 taps. Great selection of local beers including some specials like Port Anniversary Double IPA.
Also huge selection of 22 oz. bottles and great food. | IEBAILI (8), San Diego, California does not count - explanation | | December 3, 2007 Not a beer destination but a good friendly local place and an oasis in downtown SD. Always several good locals on tap, decent bottle list, laid back atmosphere and good bartending. I’ve never asked many questions so I can’t judge the knowledge level of the staff, but they’ve always taken care of me quickly and without the dreaded downtown attitude that plagues this area. Food is well prepared, basic bar food, moderate prices. Beers are priced reasonably for this area. Good place for football with adequate selection of quality beers. | | Ibrew2or3 (161), Safety Harbor, Florida | | September 15, 2007 Saw that they served Fish Tacos and figure this would be a good lunch break spot while downtown. Kind of a themed décor with no real booths to sit at but rather tall stools with tables and a bar. The tap selection was pretty disappointing. Everything on tap was very light weight lagers, wheat and light ales. Considering its summer with record setting heat that kind of makes sense. Ended up selecting a bomber of Coronado IPA. Nice Beer. The Fish Tacos were maybe average at best for San Diego. Lots of places have better Fish Tacos at almost half the price. | | mjg74 (41), La Mesa, California | | June 15, 2007 Nice little place downtown. Some good locals on tap. They don’t seem to rotate the taps too much. Good place to pop by a couple of times a year. | | trokini (57), San Diego, California | | April 27, 2007 [ Updated October 27, 2008 ] Good selection of local and seasonal beers in a relaxed setting. The burgers are great, as is the club wrap. Prices are reasonable, especially considering it is a downtown bar. Free parking is non-existent. Taps are pretty good. They are going with more locals, seasonals, and CA beers. | | Tmoney99 (254), Cincinnati, Ohio | | February 23, 2007 Easy to find location in downtown San Diego. Clean inside with long bar and clean tables and dance floor in the back. Freindly service with good knowledge of selection of 9 to 10 bottles and 8 to 10 taps of local brews. I found 4 beers I had on my watchlist. Good food menu and the fish tacos was a good portion and very good flavor. I enjoyed the visit. |
