16 reviews for Whole Foods Market, San Diego
| ghawener (33), San Salvador, El Salvador | | July 22, 2009 First stop to load up on beers on my San Diego trip. Found a wide variety of locals and imports, well stocked and carefully selected. Whole Foods is becoming one of the best chain stores for great craft beer. It sure beats the selection of other retail chains. | | WeeHeavySD (100), San Diego (Hillcrest), California | | June 11, 2009 Surprisingly haven’t rated this place even though I’ve been going here for years. Great selection as far as local beers go, and pricing can be good overall. Gets a huge inventory of Bruery Beers now as well as most of the standard SD Fair. The beer orderer knows her stuff and at least for a time was working double time here and at SD Toronado. Its a great bottle shop by itself but if your in from out of town it should make you smile check some off your list of things to get. | d0ggnate (5), California does not count - explanation | | May 11, 2009 I often find myself shopping at this location of Whole Foods, looking for that hard to find or unique ingredient for the latest and greatest recipe. Once I’m in the store, I casually wander over to the beer section and often stare for 20-30 minutes. My fiance always knows where to pick me up when she is done browsing the wine section.
Some of the great things about Whole Foods Hillcrest, relating to beer:
- Always have a great selection of recently released local brews.
- An above average selection of brews distributed in So Cal.
- Sweet selection of Belgian and belgian-style brews.
- A ton of bombers and 750’s to choose from.
- All this great beer is inside one of the better stores to shop for food = great pairings at your fingertips.
I find their prices on some things high at times, but overall on beer, they are reasonable. You can always find something to go well with the dinner recipe you’re shopping for. | | Snojerk321 (38), San Diego, California | | January 30, 2009 Pretty good selection of local brews as well as Belgians. I can always find something new and interesting there. I hear they get Russian River Supplication there but hide it in back.......not sure. | | slimchill (57), Austin, Texas | | November 1, 2008 Smaller space but solid selection. Somewhat strange layout. Good prices in general. Needs to be reorganized, me thinks. | | JoeMcPhee (262), Jackson Heights, New York | | October 28, 2008 This place is pretty tight. About 150 bottles with lots of selection from Bruery, Alesmith, Coronado, and a bunch of other Southern California micros. The free cheese sampler across from the beer cooler didn’t hurt either. It’s a pretty decent spot to grab a few bottles. | | Ibrew2or3 (161), Safety Harbor, Florida | | September 14, 2007 I knew this place was down here somewhere and I just happen to walk by. I’ve been to a half a dozen Whole Foods and this one is just about the worst for beer selection. If you are stuck downtown and want a six for your hotel room it might be worth a look. You may be better off just hitting some of the watering holes in the area. | | badlizard (67), Berkeley, California | | July 20, 2007 Pretty good selection of beers including Belgians. Friendly staff. I’ve bought beer from them a few times and keep going back. Good selection of high quality groceries too. | | padrefan98 (34), (San Diego) Santee, California | | March 28, 2007 Nice selection of beer. Good quality whole foods, nice service counter for hot foods. Picked up a few Alesmiths. | | bitter (90), Henderson, Nevada | | March 14, 2006 anybody that has been to whole foods knows they have a pretty good beer selectoin...for a grocery store. however, i have never found anything hard to get. great selection of health foods and pricey. when in rome. |
