| Sledutah (151), Utah | | April 10, 2012 A nice big bar/restaurant above the Golden Gate park museum. Great views of the beach. Service at the bar was good. I had a bowl of clam chowder that was great. Can’t say the same for the beer. It was average to below average. The IPA was the best of the bunch but it definitely wasn’t a West Coast IPA. You don’t get much farther West than on the beach. | | BMan1113VR (279), Los Angeles, California | | September 12, 2011 Finally made it out here. Out of the way unless you are in the Sunset district. There is a parking lot, but it was (for some reason) extremely crowded when I was there. The restaurant is picturesque as far as looking out over the ocean, and being tucked into the back of Golden Gate Park (I’ve driven past this place many times over the years). Food was pretty good; actually better than the beer (which was subpar). Very pricy as well. The clientele seemed to be there for the food and not the beer. The Lake Chalet in Oakland also offers a similar experience. | | joet (67), Fulton, California | | July 5, 2011 The environment is always worth a visit. Right near the beach. Comfortable easy going garden/patio area that is a great place to meet friends. Beach Chalet has always been challenged by its more sophisticated rivals in the beer department. Still very enjoyable. | otterbrau (1), does not count - explanation | | April 3, 2011 We had a few brews in the (enclosed) patio area behind the Beach Chalet proper- crowded with Sunday brunch customers.Bartender was attentive, amiable enough, willing to talk about the beers without being too chatty. Beers were good, but not terribly exciting. Liked the Rauch and Cal. Kind, didn’t care for the Wit. We visited on a drizzly overcast day, so unfortunately no comment on the fabulous view others have written about. Still, seems like a decent place with decent beer. | | mrhoppy (87), Santa Clara, California | | January 2, 2011 The view is awesome. The beers are good. Food is pretty good. Surf music during the week. | | IrishBoy (82), Bakersfield, California | | August 3, 2010 [ Updated August 4, 2010 ] Just happened to see this as I was leaving SF. Right at the end of Golden Gate Park on Highway 1, museum on the lower floor restaurant and bar up above. I did not eat the food just sampled 9 beers (one a cask version of the draft IPA). Barkeep very friendly and helpful. | | Pivoyager (63), Gaithersburg, Maryland | | November 25, 2009 Beach Chalet overlooks the aptly-named Ocean Beach. Go up the stairs and you will find a busy, and somwhat classy, dining room bustling with families, tourists and waitstaff. You can wait for a table that looks out at the beach - and where Gidget and Moondoggie are no doubt hanging ten - or you can find a place at the bar to the right as you enter. You can see the brewing tanks from here as well.
Beach Chalet offers a variety of styles - about a dozen beers, one of which was on cask during my visit. A six-beer sampler runs about $8.00. They also bottle their beer to take home. ( I took home two by the way.)
The menu seemed a bit hoity-toity; of course, I am not some swell that descends from a Pacific Heights loft when in need of victuals. In any case, the food was pretty good - I chose the roast beef dip. Service was efficient, but hurried. Obviously turnaround is important, so you should have a few pints without lingering.
Beach Chalet is adjacent to Golden Gate Park and is accessible to Muni (the public transit system.) An enjoyable lunch with some decent beers.

Great view of the ocean with plenty of parking (which is always a plus in San Francisco)
The food was pretty good; the beer selection was nice, and overall it was worth going to. | | Rastacouere (581), Montréal, Quebec | | July 1, 2009 The location at the extreme border of the Golden Gate Park, just by Ocean beach is tough to beat, so is the view, but by no means can this place be considered a must. It took us forever for one of the many, many employees to come to our table. The 2 beers tried were considerably under average and since there is not much else interesting beer destination in this part of the city, you should skip it if your time is limited. Still, inside is a rather upscale restaurant/bar with great bay windows to catch the view and sunset. The building itself is also historic. | | PilsnerPeter (100), Flushing, New York | | April 13, 2009 Beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean from the bar. Low ceilings, lots of sunlight- has a real nautical feel to it. The two bartenders weren’t the friendliest, and didn’t express to much knowledge of the product served. The beers were run of the mill. I think this place’s strongest characteristic is the scenic view of the beach and ocean. |
