I have a love/hate relationship with this place. Located right in the middle of the financial district of SF it’s pretty much dead on the weekends. It gets a bit of the lunch crowd and after work crowd going in there and the food has been amazing to complete crap over the years. It has some real history and I hope it stays open and that the owners shape things up. I would go to Suppenkuche for good german food over this place. BUT!!!! It is THE spot to go for a early morning beer to watch the world cup soccer. That’s when this place shines!

What a great place to sample real German food and beer. It may seem a bit pricey, but once you have been there and experienced it you will know that it was well worth it. You can find beers like Erdinger, Kostritzer, HB Munchin, Paulaner and Spaten on tap as well as the best service I have ever received at any restaurant. If you show up there for lunch, the OWNER seats you, brings you bread and potato salad, takes your drinks order and delivers them to you and welcomes you to his establishment as your humble host. One of the oldest existing restaurants in California, this place is Fantastic.

Excellent food, great beer. Looks like a classic Bavarian beer hall. Waiting staff is extremely friendly and bartenders are very knowledgeable. I eat at this place nearly every time I visit SF. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone anywhere.
