| cpetrone84 (34), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania | | May 10, 2012 Every time I’m here the service is fine, a bit slow but not rude. However, they do hold any good bottles for more regular customers, or at least customers that aren’t me. Even give bullshit reasons why I can’t buy their beers. Pretty lame. I do have a good time when I’m there, love the sausage next door and having a pliny with it. | | bmerz (61), New York | | March 25, 2012 This is my favorite bar anywhere! This is valhalla. Every time I have the opportunity to be in SF it is a must stop. Walking through waist height door you are greeted with the smells and spirit of one of craft beers most important establishments with the tap list front and center focus. I love all of this place from the astounding patina of paraphernalia to the room ring of Duvel magnums to the metal often on the sound system, to the punk rock club-esque bathrooms. It can be crazy crowded on many nights but it is still pretty easy to get a beer. The bar tenders are fast and if you are a good patron treat you very well, even with the occasional buyback. I love the ritual with them. The beer list has some old classics that this bar clearly has a relationship with. I find it very respectable they haven’t eschewed these for other trends. The draught list is better curated and more personal than anywhere I’ve been. I’ve only looked at the bottle list once and while extensive I just can’t bring myself not to order from the taps for what by most standards are such good deals. Thanks Toronado for so many worthwhile hangovers. | | Frank (50), Chicago, Illinois | | March 22, 2012 This place gets serious traffic even on a weekday afternoon so if you don’t like crowds go early. The reputation of this place really preceded it in my case and it is indeed a very nice beer bar. It has sort of a tough rock-n-roll vibe to it and a heavy focus on California beers. The tap list was great and there were plenty of beers to try for sure, esp. for someone visiting from out of state. This place reminds me quite a lot of being in the Maproom in Chicago where you can just tell that it’s been a great beer bar for forever and not somewhere cashing in on a trend. | | Scopey (150), Croydon, England | | March 8, 2012 Visited on a very busy Tuesday night. Toronado SF is a typical dive bar inside. Narrow bar area with high tables on opposite and a single room at the back. Seating is very limited... we arrived early and could not get a table for quite a long time. The tap list was good - lots of CA stuff like Russian River at very reasonable prices, although it looked like there were many lines off on our visit in comparison to it’s true capacity. Staff were just so-so, not particularly friendly, but not too bad. Bottle list looked good on paper but a few things I ordered were out of stock. All round decent craft beer bar, but truth be told I wouldn’t rush back. | | Ferfie (11), Edmonton, Alberta | | February 21, 2012 Amazing beer selection, and it’s huge. That said the Barton’s, with the exception of one gal were douches, that said I’m a baby-faced wuss so w/e. my rating doesn’t necessarily reflect the quality of the establishment, but more or less a visitors perspective. At the end of the day I have complaints. | | rudolf (93), Buffalo, New York | | February 16, 2012 [ Updated February 20, 2012 ] This bar rocks. A very solid selection of beers on tap, a good bottle list and ambiance out the wazoo. Service was good, even with the nonsense associated with Pliny the Younger being on tap. Pints of locals like Pliny the Elder & Blind Pig were 6 or 5 dollars, a buck less during happy hour. The sausage place next door is happy to give you a to-go basket so you can have a snack while staring at the stickers. I recognize that some people have complained about servers having an attitude, but I saw nothing of the sort. I will absolutely return here next time I’m in San Francisco. | | DonSimonsi (10), , | | February 11, 2012 You have to prepare yourself before a visit to this bar. The staff seem to have their very own idea about service but don’t let that get you down as the beer is usually great and good value. Loud punk and good beer does it for me! | | aj1451 (12), Vancouver, British Columbia | | February 10, 2012 Great Beer Bar!! If I can get a dubel for 4 bucks, and eat my gyro from the kabab shop next door inside. That’s great. It was busy, lively, the service was quick at the bar. and the day I went it was only bar service. An amazing selection of all styles and price points. I will be back the next time I am in SF. Awesome. | | ApisAles (42), Greenbelt, Maryland | | January 24, 2012 Made the mistake of stopping here on a recent business trip so I could see this place for myself. I live near DC and travel to DC and Baltimore all the time so I’m no stranger to city driving, but 45 minutes of circling looking for a parking spot was making me angry. I will grant that it’s my fault I went during the 49ers/Giants game but still. A piss drunk bum checked my ID at the door and made assessments of every woman under 25 who walked in and out of the door as to her "Do-ability." I made one attempt to get to the bar and order something and was overlooked every single time. I will totally grant that it was not the best circumstances to visit a bar, but seriously? I might give it another go, but probably not. | | msante79 (253), Mount Prospect, Illinois | | January 21, 2012 Stopped here twice on our 4 day trip to the bay area. Straight dive bar on Haight. Place is loaded with breweriana and just plain cool ship. Place is a true iconic craft beer bar with what I thought was pretty solid service and perfect for the bar. Very nice draft selection and they had bottles of Cable Car which were not on the bottle list, but a very generous BA gave me a taste of his bottle. Every patron I met was cool and there was no douche pretentiousness you find at some craft beer bar. They don’t offer food but there is no need with Rosamunde next door. Extra points for awesome juke box too. |
