After opening some bottles at DedicatedToFun’s house just down the street we decided to check out a couple of the local stores. This was the first stop and probably the weakest. Pretty much every Whole Foods looks the same but the beer selection changes a bit. Always a small selection but usually pretty well thought out. I’d say that this particular location had a slightly less interesting selection than your average Whole Foods but I will give them credit for having lots of Rochefort as well as bottles of the dry hopped DuPont Saison. They also had a couple of Prairie beers and some other odds and ends that looked interesting. In usual Whole Paycheck fashion the prices were higher than they would be anywhere else.

Kind of a cramped feeling to this store. Small beer selection, but a pretty good variety. Lots of local beers from Southern California, and California in general. There are a handful of Belgian and German imports, and some cheap selections for $3-$4 a six pack. Some fairly common/available but special beers that are more expensive than usual as well.

Modern, upscale Whole Foods that is a bit small and cramped inside. Beer selection is not bad. Expect Golden Road cans, Ballast Point cans, El Segundo, Coronado, Russian River, Strand, Anchor, but no Lost Abbey or Port for some reason. Trappists, Ommegang, some typically craft English, Belgian, German stuff. No beer person on staff I saw. Food here is solid as with all WFs. They were selling their house beers like Golden Mine for something nuts like $2.99 a six pack! RR Supplication was $13 a bottle. Seemed a bit sleep to me especially for California.

There are several Whole Food’s in Santa Monica (several on Wilshire even). This happens to be the biggest and best of those ones. Standard to slightly above par Whole Food’s beer selection. Servers were not very knowledgeable. Overall you are better going to the one in Venice (which has a couple of taps) or the Westwood one.

Decent local and regional selection. Better than what you’ll find in most restaurants in the area.

Coming from PA (the land of case only beer), finding a Whole Foods that sells singles is a God Send. Decent Belgium and Import selection with some local beers.
