5 reviews for The Distillery
Cbunda (1), Spring Lake , Michigan does not count - explanation | | September 30, 2009 We were in Savannah on business and looked to Pubcrawler.com for a location for a few good beers. With only one brewery, Savannah has a major lack of quality beers available, but The Distillery was a great relief. We stopped in late; however, as soon as the owner found out we were beer geeks, he was all over us. This place has a great selection of quality beers on tap from Dogfish head to Bells, and the staff actually knows what they are talking about. We ended up with a 100 pound blond for a waitress that was also a beer geek... what more can you ask for! I would recommend this this place to any beer geek that is looking for good beer in Savannah.. | | NachlamSie (213), Tennessee | | August 21, 2009 This is what Savannah needed: a good beer bar. Plenty of quality taps and bottles are available with not much space wasted on crap. Nothing obnoxiously rare was availalbe, but I did enjoy some Stone Ruination on draft. We sat at the bar and received excellent, attentive, and personable service. I only had some appetizers here, but I must say the IPA onion rings and the imperial stout chili are particularly awesome. The beers are a fair price. Ambiance is typical for this type of bar, I have no complaints with that. I will more than likely return. | | azorie (17), Florida | | August 11, 2009 Ok sadly this is another touristy hipster joint. We walked in around 1:30, bar to the left, tables on the right and a few more towards the back, one open area. Large chalkboard over the entrance, but not being utilized for current selections. Menus a little slow to reach us considering only 2 tables taken and 2 waitresses on. Had to ask for a beer list and no talk of what’s new except to inform us that she was out of 2 that she crossed off. I noticed some taps that were not on the list so I guess I would have to go find out for myself what is on tap. Also, WTF with 2 beers that are out, no backup kegs???
After sitting with an empty beer for some time, finally am asked if I want another one, Sierra Nevada Brown Saison and wife got a coke. Planned on a third, but didn’t have another hour to wait.
Overall, the selection is good for Savannah, a few beers I didn’t see anywhere else, but alot of trivial stuff included. I did like that they don’t carry any macros, but they have PBR. This place has alot of room for improvement and I would have to visit agian to see before I would eat here again. My recommendation is to grab beers here and leave dining for somewhere else. Service was not knowledgeable nor competent, one flight is labeled mystery, but it seems they all are mystery. Sign actually boasts of their beer knowledge??? | | Beershine (268), Traipsing Around, China | | February 6, 2009 Awesome new gastropub-type place with a lively ambiance, above-average pub grub with creative options and humorous snacks including .99 cent PBJ sandwiches and things like that. Homemade black bean veg burger is worth getting. The bar is long and fun to sit at. High ceilings allow it to tolerate lots of noise from the buzzing crowd, which is majority young professionals. The bar is using proper glassware when possible, but when it’s crowded they slack on that, understandably. Beer selection is very good and taps change regularly. Got me some Prima Pils as fresh as can be. The only drawback is that they have insufferable singer/electroacoustic guitarist playing lame covers of lame songs loudly at night. This great atmosphere begs for better music! In keeping with the speakeasy theme maybe some ragtime, old timey jazz, or something sophisticated. Anything but eagles and van morrison covers, please! | | Oakes (422), Beyond the Great Firewall, China | | January 29, 2009 The Distillery is the only serious beer bar in Savannah, just opened last year. The Prohibition theme doesn’t extent too far, but the beer list does considering Savannah isn’t exactly known beer geek country. The place is very popular. The food is pub standards, with some very cheap options. Every beer is served in proper glassware, which is impressive. It’s a fun place to drink and the selection is as good as you’ll get for a few hours in any direction. |
