| portableparty (12), Blaine, Minnesota | | August 26, 2011 Stop in every now and then when in the area. The selection is decent with a few surprises. The employess are helpful and a couple are big into beer (makes for good talk). Prices are pretty norm. | | tennisjoel (32), Rochester, Minnesota | | May 23, 2010 Stopped by here on the way to a house warming party after staying at my parents for the weekend. It must have been a good omen that I was wearing a surlyfest t-shirt, because the beer manager (I think?) noticed by shirt and then mentioned that I passed by the Surly beers. Next he asked me if I was interested in 1 bottle of Surly Four he had stocked in the back. He also mentioned that the full lineup of Surly was available, including Abrasive Ale. I opted for a bottle of Four for the special occasion, and also bought a nice medium priced bottle of Chianti as a gift for the housewarming party. Great service and I really wasn’t expecting the Surly Four as that was an extra bonus. Fairly decent selection, but the service is what stood out at Bacchus. | | OSLO (119), Ames, Iowa | | May 2, 2008 Not a bad store, as Stine said, there is still ’05 HOTD Rose and Rose Cassis available. There is also the usual Bell’s, the new Southern Tiers, Goose Island, the standard Belgians (St. Bernardus, Orval, etc.) and a good selection of Viking products. The staff seemed a little inexperienced about the beer, but asked three times if I needed help and was overall quite friendly. Not a bad place, but there certainly are better options in the area. | | Stine (70), St. Paul , Minnesota | | March 18, 2008 I used to shop here fairly often when I lived closeby. Reliable to find a small selection of imports that provides some minor deviances from the norm. Reasonable selection of midwest micros not offered in singles, and better choices are closeby Cellars at Co. Rd. C is 2-3 miles south, and St. Anthony Spirits 3-4 miles west. Notable is that this place is virtually unshopped by craft beer drinkers the small stock of HOTD Rose and Rose Cassis from 2005 is still available, and I remember that the Bell’s wheat series stayed on the shelves here for a solid six months after it was gone elsewhere. Helpful staff for the most part. | | KAF (100), Coralville, Iowa | | March 1, 2008 This is on Lexington if you take it North past Roseville, attached to a strip mall. There was one employee who was on the phone but got off to ask if I needed any help. They had a small but nice selection of imports in singles (a lot of Unibroue) and they had some Bell’s and a few other macros in six packs. I only asked the cashier one question but he knew the answer (I asked about Hair of the Dog products). If you’re in the area you might as well stop by, but it is nothing to go out of your way to get to. |
