68 Historical 19th century pub with a decent selection of ales |
64 Classic pub, pretty narrow, an upper floor for eating. Decent selection. Food was not particularily good. |
66 The smallest Nicholson’s pub on a corner just south of Soho Square. The bar is squeezed into its corner, is not very long but still packs in a fairly decent selection of ales, but there was nothing new for me on this occasion. It has a wonderfully historic interior, although it’s full you might not be able to enjoy it in all it’s glory if you’re minding how to go or continually bumping into people at peak times. If the weather is good patrons do spill out into the street. |
72 I’ll certainly visit this pub (dating from 1897) again, as it has one of London’s best examples of the use of tiled panels, featuring bespoke dog and duck designs. The literary minded will also be interested to know that George Orwell used to drink here. 7 casks and 9 taps, with an interesting choice of guest beers. Friendly and informative bartender. |
54 Small and pretty classical British pub. Selection is not very big, quite crowded, hard to find a place inside. Therefore the service also lacks a bit. Otherwise, very nice interior and possibility to find some good beer. Worth to visit once but not weekly or monthly. |
66 Visited on 6th November 2016. Small single roomed pub in Soho. Decor is nice with large brewery mirrors, tiling, plenty of dark wood panels and ornate chandeliers. Beer range is decent enough on cask with a reasonable array of micro and macro brews plus a smattering of keg and bottled options. Beer quality was good. Service and prices OK. Decent enough spot. |
60 Klassisk brittisk pub. Rätt liten men det gör ju inget. Kul med George Orwell kopplingen. |
66 It’s always a pleasure to visit Dog & Duck as well in the daytime as in the evenings. This time we came late in the evening and had to drink our cask ales on the pavement outside. To really enjoy the atmosphere it is best to come here before lunch time, buy a pint and take a seat to the rear on the ground floor. The main room is small and filled with historic, Victorian interiors, mosaic paintings and mirrors on the walls, grand II-listed as it is. The pub now belongs to the Nicholson’s chain and servers a range of six cask ales. Usually friendly staff. Decent food upstairs. Surely my favourite pub in Soho (together with Fuller’s The Ship) (visited with CNN friends 11.07.2015). |
