Een stop zeker waard, De Strubbe bieren zijn alom tegenwoordig dus de ideale plaats om er een Keyte van’t vat te drinken.

3 Miles from the centre of Ostend is the small village of Stene, bus numbers 5 and 6 take you there, or you can walk, like we did. Surrounded by other restaurants, this place has the best beer selection of them all and a reputation for food, although we didn’t eat on our visit. The church and a sail-less mill sit very close to it also. Front drinking bar, back room is a restuarant and outside is a suntrap area with cheap green plastic tables and chairs. It was a lovely sunny day, so we sat outside. Eight beers on tap including Keyte Blonde and Brown. The bottle list goes from BarBar to Witkap Triple with about 60 others inbetween. The local Strubbe Brewery has eight beers on the list, so if you’ve never had any of their beers, this is the place to try them. This is a regular entry in Tim Webb’s belgian GBG and rightly so. Well worth the walk out and back, even if the journey had very little in the way of sights to see.

We have visited here a couple of times in the last 2-3 months most recently on Friday 11th November 2011. This is a great little find which we discovered via Tim Webb’s lastest edition of the GBG Belgium. Cosy and homely with some great home cooking. Seems very popular with locals of all ages and it must be said that the staff are extremely helpful and friendly. We’ve eaten here on a couple of occasions now, both fish, steak, ham shanks have all been excellent and at a reasonable price. The beer list whilst not exhaustive will likely have something that you might not have had, if not there is always Rochefort 10 or Orval amongst the 80 or so beers to content oneself with. The village has all but become part of Ostend and is easiest approached from the N33 and turning back along Steenedijk, we got totally bamboozled the first time that we went looking for this place and ended up driving down a very narrow tarmac strip next to a canal much to the bemusement of the local evening fishermen. If you are in the area and want some good food and beer in a lovely little cafe/bar then you will not go far wrong if you pop in here.
