76 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 16/20 Travlr (999) Washington, Washington DC | March 1, 2012 The outside bar was closed, and the inside bar was packed. So I sat on the outdoor terrace with a view of the "lake." Service was actually excellent, even though it was very crowded at lunchtime, and the server knew the beers, the brewing process and upcoming events pretty thoroughly. Five beer samplers were $8.50. Of the two staple beers, the light lager was boring, but the pale ale was decent, and the rest were very solid. Overall, this place exceeded my expectations. | 56 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 12/20 DiarmaidBHK (550) Pennsylvania | July 5, 2011 Sat at the bar of the outdoor patio which had a nice view of the artificial, man-made lake. They have the typical 6 beer color palate brew pub selection. We went on a Friday night where the service was a bit dodgy. I hate having to ask for water multiple times. I also hate it when our bartender disappears for30 minutes at a time. The crowd was a typical under 30 crowd who enjoys smoking and talking over really loud noise. Many of the folks there didn’t seem to be into the beer. The food was decent though nothing to write home about. It wasn’t a bad experience but there was nothing particularly special about it either. | 52 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD 5/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 11/20 magsinva (136) Virginia | July 4, 2011 sat at the outdoor bar. The bartender was pushing the mixed drinks (at a brew pub? why?), forgetful, and kept disappearing with no one taking his place. The house beer was OK, not great, and the food was nothing to come back for. Disappointing, hopefully the other locations where better. | 42 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 2/10 SELECTION 6/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 9/20 Drake (394) Ivy, Virginia | April 30, 2011 Finally visited the last of the three Sweetwater Tavern locations. Nice vibe here. The typical Southwestern decor, but more natural light than I remember from the other locations (and I visited both in the day) leading to a more open feel. Nice looking outdoor bar, though I sat inside. Did not eat. Customer service sucked. Whoever is managing this place is not doing a good job with the staff. One girl was running herself ragged doing everything while everyone else was disinterested and lazy. Parking was ample. The beers kinda sucked but I only tried two of the options. Despite the nicer decor, I’ll be patronizing the other two locations in the future. | 76 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 Balazs (36) Budapest, Hungary | August 28, 2010 Nice brewery onsite, make sure to take a peek. Clean facilities, good service, and really good food. A bit pricey, but great service and the ever changing beer selection makes up for it. Beers could be even more aggressive, but overall you won’t be disappointed here. | 60 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 12/20 BeerandBlues2 (460) Hanover, Maryland | August 23, 2010 Nicely decorated corporate restaurant in a corporate area of town. The place was all but empty at 3:30 PM, so the service was attentive without being overly aggressive. Five house beers were available along with an assortment of other beverages. The beer was average, with nothing too spectacular. The food was good and the menu terse, with the prices being typical of a large restaurant. | 72 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 blutt59 (133) Dallas, Texas | May 18, 2010 Nice restaurant that happens to brew beer. Beers are ok and do have good rotation of styles. Food is good and staff is friendly and somewhat knowledgeable about what they brew | 52 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 5/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 12/20 ben4321 (165) Hoboken, New Jersey | June 7, 2009 Went on my 2nd trip to a Sweetwater Tavern yesterday, this one was the one in Sterling, and it was pretty similar to the other location I had previously visited. The beer I tried was OK, nothing too special, but drinkable. Food was pretty good, a nice place to grab a bite and a brew. | 58 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 12/20 Elwood (100) Leesburg, Virginia | March 29, 2009 I recently went to Sweetwater after a significant hiatus. The is always fairly solid, but a bit overpriced in my mind. The staff is friendly but not overly knowledgeable about the beer they serve. The beer can be hit or miss depending on the style you get. I look forward to having the imperial stout whenever it shows back up at this location. You can definitely do worse in terms of places to go for a beer and something to eat. | 64 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 13/20 sthlm (133) Iowa | March 4, 2009 Stopped here after work one day to try the High Desert Imperial Stout and stayed to try the Buffalo Tooth Ale as well. Pretty decent feel to the place, or as good as can be expected given the location. Service was good, not great. The beer was served far too cold, and it appeared as if all styles there are served in pint glasses. Quite a few business people showed up as the evening wore on, and unfortunately since smoking is allowed in Virginia, I soon was able to smell nothing but cigarettes. One good thing is that the prices were pretty good, especially considering the area. I didn’t get anything to eat while I was there. |
