| halfbaked (18), , | | March 12, 2012 So glad this is my "local".
They have a great rotation of local and international tap beers, and lots of extras in bottles(although these are pretty expensive). Staff are friendly and knowledgeable and decent food is available.
Atmosphere is laidback and relaxed on quiet days, very loud and crowded on popular nights, so pick your time to visit. | | GT2 (196), Washington DC | | July 22, 2011 Went here in the evening- a little bit of a longish jaunt from King’s Cross but walkable from where I was staying. The interior is dimly lit with lots of dark wood. Atmosphere is that of young, upper class business men getting off work to relax and network. Pretty upscale so don’t come expecting a dive bar- more posh like Churchkey in DC. The tap list focuses almost only on Aussie craft beer. I was very excited to find Feral Brewing stuff, which is the only Australian brewery I know of that makes and wild ales. They were quite good. I also got a sampler flight, which I’d recommend to try a bunch of different things. Food here was excellent- I had something like hanger steak that was divine. Pretty expensive though, but then you’d be paying the same for crap beer and bar food at almost any bar in Sydney. Very nice place to head out to get away from the tourists on The Rocks and the clubbers in Darling Harbour. Getting here a bit earlier for dinner is probably a good idea before it becomes a bar in full swing. | | mkel07 (17), Brisbane, Australia | | June 23, 2011 Visted on a Saturday afternoon when it was quite busy. Great selection of beers but a bit cramped and noisy. Not quite what I was expecting. Would like to visit mid week or on a Sunday when it is presumably a little quieter. | | fletchfighters (14), , Australia | | May 13, 2011 [ Updated April 2, 2012 ] Very European in feel and look. In a way small and cramped though. Very little parking in the area and if you want to be there over an hour a train is your best option.
Service is good but nothing over the top or makes itself stand out.
Beer selection is crap compared to Melbourne location. gets better stuff. Pricing can be good to way overpriced.
Value wise if you live in the area it is a godsend. If you are on the other side of the bridge that is another matter. Not nearly as good as the Wheatsheaf in Adelaide. | | Stew41 (112), Woodend, Australia | | April 19, 2011 [ Updated April 20, 2011 ] In line with expectations which, admittedly, were high. Fitout compared to Melbourne is same but different. Very good use of dark wood panelling but the classic inner city pub roots can’t be denied complete with art deco tiling and wall bench bars. Range very good and in line with Melbourne. Pricing in line with bad Aust craft pub premium pricing. Must be Syd’s best venue? Service soldid without being OS. Plus they play great alt county like Wilco and Golden Smog!
| | jonno (92), , Japan | | October 10, 2010 TimE has the best thoughts here on this bar. Rough and ready place, though no rough types there. Decor is old and a bit haphazard. Feels a bit unclean. 2 levels the real draw is the excellent range of beers they get here. Service was friendly and prices are decent - though bottles are pretty over the top (though this is average in Australia). Good place but the Wheatsheaf is still the quintessential craft bar I have visited in Australia in terms of overall experience. | rocket39 (1), , Australia does not count - explanation | | October 8, 2010 great craft beer pub, great selection of local and international beers, always rotating there taps so always something new to try when you go there | | ndon (52), London, England | | June 10, 2010 [ Updated December 29, 2010 ] Rotating taps with some great beers from Oz, NZ, and international guest beers. Friendly staff who know their beer.
Edit: The rooftop bar is now open, and it just makes this place even better!!! | Mattburns (3), does not count - explanation | | June 1, 2010 Fantastic bar. Beer, food staff all on the money. A great place to go anytime. | nzbiggles (2), , Australia does not count - explanation | | April 8, 2010 Awesome bar. Huge rotation of unique beers, a perfect place if you want to taste beers. Only problem is the beers are so rare you often never taste them again. |
