| Photog (26), Camillus, New York | | November 14, 2010 A little hard to get to but I really enjoyed my visit here. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly, they made our tasting informative and fun. There isn’t much to their tasting room but had a couple of friendly cats. Would definitely go back. | busster88 (9), Syracuse, New York does not count - explanation | | May 21, 2010 Fantastic place to go and sample some brew. Very nice staff that know their beer! Never done the tour but have heard it is rather good. Really like the small size and personality of the place. Definitely a must visit! | | mabel (211), Toronto, Ontario | | August 22, 2009 Visited on a quiet Friday night before BCTC in July, our group of four was welcomed warmly by the servers with several samples and smiles. Seven of their own were on tap, all in great shape and interesting. No food being served. It’s a basic room with a bar and various store items for sale like t-shirts and bottles and openers. Two resident cats were sleeping in various locations about the place, one in a basket, one jumped up on a stack of 12-pack boxes. Service was friendly and informative. Good brewery to visit, surprisingly not too busy before the Cooperstown’s beer festival that weekend. | | williamherbert (50), Syracuse, New York | | July 27, 2009 The tasting room here is hit or miss at any given time. Here are the constants: 7 free samples per visit, servers who know what they are doing, phenonenal beer. On some days, the servers are more interested in chatting up the regulars than handing out samples. Once you can catch they eye of one of the servers they are usually pretty good, but I have gone thirsty more than once. They do a great job filling growlers and giving you information about the beer when you ask. When it’s empty (lately not likely) it’s a great place to spend an hour or so and walk out with lots of good beer for relatively cheap. | | dmradus (13), Ithaca, New York | | May 31, 2008 It’s a nice place - seems out of the way but it really is not, only a couple minutes from the other beer hot spots in Syracuse. Didn’t take the tour. Tasting room and gift shop is nice: servers are really friendly and want to give you a lot of beer for free - seriously, they don’t ever stop asking if you want samples. Take advantage. Growler fills available on all the beers on for sample as well as about 5 others. It gets busy but they handle the crowds very well. You can buy singles, cases, bombers, clothing, growlers and growler holders, glassware. The only qualm I have with this place: letting three coats roam the tasting room (getting up on the countertops, darting between the tap handles and your sample glass, basically walking wherever they want) is at least strange if not downright unsanitary. Personally I don’t know how they get away with it - I guess it doesn’t seem to bother most people (they are friendly cats) but...it just seems weird to me, I don’t know. That said, a really fun place and a must visit in Syracuse. | Crocket47 (1), New York does not count - explanation | | January 5, 2008 Fun, friendly place for all. Truly a hidden jewel. | | Dansting (114), Overland Park, Kansas | | June 29, 2007 I visited the brewery tasting room on a Saturday afternoon. There were quite a few people there. They had seven beers that you could sample for free, and a total of twelve that you could purchase. They didn’t cut anyone off, so they were generous. The staff was very nice and helpful, and they seemed to know their beer rather well. The beer was excellent, especially the Double IPA. They sold six-packs, 12-packs, and cases (which you could mix), four packs of their Belgium-styled ales, 22-ounce bottles for three brands, growlers, and kegs. The tasting room is really nothing to look at, and there wasn’t anywhere to sit down (our driver was a pregnant lady), but that would be the only negative with Middle Ages. Definitely worth the trip if you are anywhere in the Syracuse area. | | shadey (45), Rochester, New York | | June 17, 2007 Doesn’t look like much from the outside. There really isn’t even a parking lot, just some loading docks and gravel. But inside its a little store and a tasting bar. The employees were really generous with the samples and nice to talk to. If you’re allergic to cats, you might want to stay outside. There were three cats that kinda owned the place. | | bitter (90), Henderson, Nevada | | March 22, 2006 now we just happened to stumble in when they were giving free tastings, maybe they do this all the time. there were many locals hanging out drinkn free beers. all be it they were 10oz plastic cups but you could try all their beers as many times as you like. ther were almost 10 or more to select from. | XO (6), New Jersey does not count - explanation | | November 18, 2004 This is a must stop for my dad and me every holiday season. Of all the beer places I’ve been, this is the easiest to strike up a conversation with real beer enthusiasts that frequent the place. The staff keep the samples coming, I end up drinking more than I buy! Good selection of beers, The Beast is my absolute favorite but try the Impaled Ale! |
