| Travlr (637), Washington, Washington DC | | May 20, 2012 This is a German deli on steroids, or metzgerei meets beer geek hangout meets Oktoberfest meets German Disneyland. Only if the male servers wore dirndls could it be more bizarre. But the central feature is a digital menu that scrolls page after page after page of tap and bottled beers. And not just German beers by any stretch, but a very solid variety from arond the globe and the local area. Food is tasty and, as you would expect, filling. Fun place! | BigSound (9), New York does not count - explanation | | March 27, 2012 Awesome bar/ restaurant. Great tap list and lots of good German food. The atmosphere is nice and there is usually some local live music. The staff knows the beer and are very friendly. | | pari6819 (40), Florida | | March 20, 2012 No matter when I go to Dunderbaks I am always impressed with what they have on draft. It seems as though they have things on draft there that just logically would not be available on draft outside of the brewer’s respective state or establishment. The other nice thing is their staff is enthusiastic to talk about beer and seem to have a pretty good knowledge base, unlike other places that are "beer" establishments. | DrCitrus (3), does not count - explanation | | February 15, 2012 Very good German food. An excellent selection of brews on tap. Highly knowledegable wait staff. Two bars. | | sebletitje (200), Enghien, Belgium | | January 26, 2012 Cool German atmosphere in the FL swamps.
Menu is straightforward German flavored with a nice deli-style array of German products to buy. Food is good but remains very traditional of German cuisine.
Selection of beers is generally changing and offers plenty of craft beers. Always a good experience, knowledgeable staff, friendly service, reasonable prices. Decor is cool with again traditional seating arrangements in benches. | | deadheadbill (11), Crystal River, Florida | | January 26, 2012 Dunderbaks is overlooked sometimes in the Tampa Bay beer scene. I think mainly due to its location.
They consistently have an amazing beer selection and good food. They are also home to one of Tampa’s largest homebrew clubs. Definitely check it out when you are in Tampa. | BeerLover111 (8), Florida does not count - explanation | | September 2, 2011 OMG! The beer selection is out of control. Love this place. | | drowland (116), Tallahassee, Florida | | June 2, 2011 Visited mid-May, 2011.
A nice, brightly-lit place made to look like your typical American German restaurant. Big tables which scared me into thinking it’s communal eating, which I hate. It was slow when I went, so luckily it didn’t happen to us.
Our waiter was knowledgeable about beers and knew what was on tap, but wasn’t very attentive to us. We also happened to stop in right as they were printing the new beer menu out for the day, and it never came by the time we were done eating.
There are a lot of good brews on tap, but it’s nothing that is going to blow you away for the area.
The food I had was awesome. I’m not a German food expert, but I do enjoy it very much, and it was stellar.
The beers were priced average, but the food seemed a bit pricey... though still good.
Overall, I think this is a fun place to stop if you want some tasty German food, a goofy atmosphere, and plenty of good brews on tap. I wouldn’t say it’s an absolute necessity while in Tampa, though. | | FloridaNative (19), Florida | | May 16, 2011 I think I have been going here since I was about 6. My father was stationed in Germany during ’nam. When he came back, he had developed a taste for the Teutonic fare, and many a day of my youth was spent munching on reubens, and watching my pops down Lowenbrau. Much has changed since then, including a new more - bierhall worthy location, and better food. The recent move has increased the tap selection as well. It of course has an amazing European beer collection, and a very knowledgeable bar staff. I have met the owner, and he takes the place very seriously. This establishment has been doing it right on all counts for a very very long time, long before the recent "import beer" renaissance. Stop in for venison and smoked pork sausages, kraut and potato pancakes. You won’t be disappointed. | | DWestrick (21), Ft Wayne, Indiana | | March 6, 2011 very neat German bar/resaurant in Tampa Florida. Great beer selection and tasty german food! |
