66 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 12/20 KansaiBeerLvrs (42) Kyoto, Japan | April 8, 2013 After hearing so many good things about this place I was somewhat disappointed when I got there. The building set up is really nice, clean, sleek & modern with 14 taps. But when I was there they didn’t seem to have anything so exciting and the prices were about average. The pizza was ok, it is great to see Chicago style pizza in Japan but having been in Chicago last summer it didn’t measure up to my memory so well. I kept getting a musty flavor, could have been the beer or the sauce which was too salty for me-maybe canned? The service was quite good though, the food came promptly, the menu was clear and informative and they were kind enough to give me a cute little sampler of an Oyster Stout I was asking about. I think it is a nice enough place and it seems incredibly popular. Everyone I heard from said it is pretty much always busy and I was happy to have gotten there at 6pm with a friend holding me a seat as people kept dropping by with many being turned away. That being said, if Devil Craft is full pop into Kura Kura across the street for a beer and go back later or see if they’ll call you when space opens up. A nice enough place but I was expecting more due to the hype. | 72 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 AndySnow (44) Stockholm, Sweden | April 1, 2013 Good selection of food and really good pizza. English speaking staff. A good selection of Japanese micros with some foreign thrown in. | 78 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 15/20 shoulderbroken (119) Tokyo, Japan | October 6, 2012| Updated November 4, 2012 Nice place with good selection and very nice pizzas. Prices are about usual for Tokyo. We were in the top room and it was a bit noisy, but that was just due to one big group of loudmouths so can’t hold that against the place. One of the US imports I had only has 6 ratings so I guess it’s pretty special to get to drink that in Tokyo. Will be heading back, but next time, not on a Friday night. | 64 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 13/20 nate2g (443) Boomtown! / Waikato, New Zealand | June 27, 2012| Updated November 4, 2012 Chuwy again lead the way on a Tokyo crawl. Arrived not long before closing but managed to get a couple of beers in. Tap list was similar to other bars around the city. Place is a little sterile but in defence a sameness to most other beer bars in Japan. OK but not one of my favourites in Tokyo. | 80 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 16/20 JorgeLee (71) , England | February 26, 2012| Updated May 14, 2012 Visit on work trip to Tokyo. Selection big enough and changes frequently (even through an evening), mix of mostly Japanese and US beers, tasty pizza, chaps behind the bar know what’s going on, locals are friendly. Own beer coming soon i hear, good luck! | 82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 10/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 18/20 EdKing (101) London, England | January 8, 2012| Updated May 14, 2012 Taken here care of TimE and propably the most enjoyable bar so far in Tokyo. Helped by the arrival of Chewy, Tim Maloney and a few others. However, the 15 tap beer list was excellent and the best line up so far. Beer quality also spot on and had several of the best beers I’ve had on the trip so far including Aqula Kiwi IPA, Aqula Kiwi Weizen, Birra Del Borgo Re Ale Extra and a special mention for the awesome pizzas which I will be returning for soon. Split over three or four levels this is clearly a place where they take beer and food seriously, and it shows in the level of attention to detail. | 90 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD 10/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 18/20 SweetHorizon (10) , New Zealand | November 28, 2011| Updated May 14, 2012 Probably the best Pizza’s I’ve ever had.
Staff were friendly and spoke English well enough, or if the owners are there they are native English speakers. Great range of beers of tap, so good I was there 3 times over my holiday. They plan on brewing their own beer on site soon, I had one of the beers that Baird make for them, and it was amazing. Great location, great bar. | 86 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 18/20 JapanTony (52) , Japan | November 22, 2011| Updated May 14, 2012 Great friendly neighborhood place with an impressive rotating selection of excellent beer. Pints around 1,000, and the only deep dish pizza around (also very affordable). | 76 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 15/20 jonno (105) , Japan | October 8, 2011 Good little place that distinguishes itself with the chicago style pizzas, which are very moreish. 5 floors of rapildy ascending space, with little room on each level. 15 beers on tap, served in good condition. Top little hide out in Kanda. | 78 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 16/20 KyotoLefty (350) Kyoto, Japan | August 18, 2011| Updated September 28, 2011 This place will be a brewpub by early next year. Now it’s just a great place to get a really tasty pizza and choose from 15 beers, all top stuff and well-selected. The guys who run it are American, but long-time part of the beer scene in Japan. Already a top destination in Tokyo; once the get to brewing, they just may have a huge impact on craft brewing in Japan. Hope so. |
