| Spab (25), Toronto, Ontario | | July 1, 2009 Not at the peak of the beer pyramid in Toronto, but comfortably in that second-tier. From a beer perspective this was my ’gateway’ pub into more exciting beers - it has Creemore, Steamwhistle on draught and some pedestrian bottles, but also has lots of more interesting taps (with some rotation), all Ontario craft save for Guiness. Beautiful patio, nice cozy inside (although it is small so can fill up quickly and can be tight as noted below). Excellent service. I’ve always really enjoyed the food (top end pub grub). Not the destination Volo or beerbistro are but a favourite haunt for me. | | Sammy (275), Toronto, Ontario | | June 23, 2009 The patio makes this place, and so good weather and lunchtime is when to go. With the canvas roof up, it was great, romantic and all that. Food (as reviewed by Chavdar and Jonathan) was above average. Beer selection is passable, 2nd tier and the place is central. This is a day place, and for drinks with lunch. The main restaurant is tight, and if you stay at the bar, it is very tight. Saw about a dozen taps and about a dozen bottles, with the majority devoted to craft beer. Beer served at appropriate temperature but glass was chlorined and service was good considering the lunchtime crowd. |
