| dcschiller (42), Scottsdale, Arizona | | February 25, 2012 A decent little brewpub at the Tucson Mall. Decor seems beach bar up front and has some pretty nice restrooms. I had some appetizers and they were clearly not made at the restaurant. Beers were ok, but I do have to give them kudos for having a rotating barrel-aged beer. | | dchmela (96), Orlando, Florida | | January 29, 2012 Brewpub located in a mall. Decent selection of house brews with a barrel version of something and a cask version. Service was great and the food from the people next to us smelled great. Good place, would suggest a visit. | | LilBeerDoctor (185), East Setauket, New York | | January 25, 2012 A decent brewpub in Tuscon. As mentioned, it is located in a strip mall so it has a different feel to it. There is a square bar (well half a square) and a lot of restaurant space, plus outdoor seating. There was a decent sized tap list, probably 7-8 offerings (including a cask and rotating Belgian). The beers were decent to good. The food is ok. I split a chicken and cheese dip (I forget the exact name) and it was just ok. Prices were on the slightly higher side. Every time a patron tips in cash, the bartender rings a bell (I’m not sure why). Overall, it is an ok spot to try some new beer. | | BOLTZ7555 (56), Phoenix, Arizona | | January 1, 2012 Located in a low end mall, which was surprising. Food is a bit less than average...have found that most brewpubs offer pretty solid grub. Lots of beers to choose from but many are average. They do, however, have Warhead on occassion so you know they have it in them. Tucson seems to be adding some options, which might not be a good thing for TC. | | ultrashuai (22), Bloomington, Indiana | | November 16, 2011 Thunder Canyon is sort of like an independently-owned Rock Bottom or BJ’s. I say this because they share many of the same characteristics of the chain brewpubs but differ from them in very clear ways. For one, they do a lot of simply passable, generic beers. They’re the sort of beers that you drink and say "Meh..." and come on here and give a low rating. But screw that crap; they also do some very good beers, you just have to watch out for them. Every once in a while, one of those beers will come on tap briefly, and that’s what keeps me coming back here.
We would mostly come up for the happy hour, which features good deals on beers but also some great deals on their food (try the Catalina Fingers). They also do late night deals, daily specials and mug club deals. In other words: they work hard to keep your beer cheap.
The atmosphere is lame, yes. Nothing quite as unfortunate as, not just a mall brewpub, but a second-rate mall (which Foothills Mall is) brewpub. You have to look past that. For years, I think I couldn’t look past it and would just never come here. Then two things happened: I started working very near here (very bad, very brief job) and they started working with 1702 to create an excellent dark IPA often available at that bar. After that, I became essentially a loyal regular.
There are a lot of loyal regulars here. But, unfortunately, a lot of those regulars are here because this is, factually speaking, one of the few full bars in the area. Therefore, you get a lot of people taking advantage of the margarita (they’re terrible here, FYI) and Stoli specials, and drinking wine. Please don’t do that: it’s a beer place.
You get better service at the bar because the bartenders know more about the beers and can give you recommendations. If you’re there, ask about their "cask" and their "Belgian," because they always have one of each on tap, but they’re not listed on their beer list that’s on the wall.
For food, the food tends to be good. It’s one of those places where you really have to know what to order. I like the Catalina Fingers and I like the nachos. They have good burgers too. The full entrees are also good. | | jmikolich (45), Brunswick, Ohio | | August 4, 2011 locally in a mall, with only their beers on tap.. but a good patio and good food.. their pretzel appetizers are really good with a nice spicy mustard...food is nicely priced.. and their beer is great during happy hour, but normal price is average.. they sell growlers but no bottles. | | Terminus (233), Las Cruces, New Mexico | | June 27, 2011 not a bad place, but not great. if you have the time, maybe worth a stop, even though its a bit off the highway. very attractive watresses though (dont i say that about every place? lol!). Beer is hit/miss but mostly average. nothing will blow you away. food is decent but has a stiff mall brewpub kind of feel (since it is in a mall!) | | ChanceD (10), Utah | | June 18, 2011 One of my favorite place to go out with friends and family. food is great beer is great service is better. | | fata2683 (125), Tucson, Arizona | | June 17, 2011 My favorite place in Tucson for craft beer. The food is average but the service is always good and there is always something new on tap. Usually always a cask and barrel aged offering as well. The guest taps are always decent and the prices are very fair. | | ontbeermaker (127), Ontario | | May 17, 2011 Decent place, the room inside is quite big lots of space. We just got some drinks no food. We sat out side and was served pretty fast. the beers were decent and easy down. Patio had a bar with it, with a nice set of tap handles. Good place to spot in, if your in the area |
