Visited on a Sunday afternoon. Great beer list, with some specials especially brewed to the specifications of the owner. Unfortunately a few beers on the list weren’t available today, but the rest of the beer list and the friendly owner made up for it easily. Nice atmosphere, very cosy, and quite close to the central square in Turnhout.

Perhaps the epitome of the Belgian brown café, the original Spuyten Duyvil sits a few blocks down from the main Turnhout square. On a weekday afternoon, less than 10 people were in that place that can probably fit around 70. Beautiful wooden furniture and atmospheric brick walls all around. No one spoke English in the whole bar, but we understood that they had exclusive ales, one of which was the excellently dry and hoppy Liene. Besides the rather generic 5-10 taps, the Belgian bottle list probably hovers around 300 with no weaknesses. We had a De Cam Kriek and a Rodenbach Vintage, not stuff you see everywhere. Put this place in Brussels and it would have one of the best bottle selection in town, but there is not a whole lot that can’t be found in beer stores, so making a specific detour may not be completely essential. I’m very glad I passed by though.

Visited October 2009. We came in just after the 2pm opening so the place was empty. Pleasant, homely atmosphere. We were served by the friendly, knowledgeable landlord. I had three beers that I’d never heard of before. There is a house cat.

A small great bar in Turnhout, with all kinds of beer. Even when you ask, there are special ones. I’ve bin there twice, but there wil be a lot more times in the future.

A small bar in Turnhout. Cosy atmosphere. We come ther regularly, good service, nice selection of beers.

Very nice small bar. Like mentioned by the other raters they have an excellent Lambic list. Every month some new beers are presented.

Rather small but very pleasant beer bar in Turnhout. Nice beer list, with some specialties as well from Belgium as some foreign ones. Extensive geuze list.
