| Jow (59), New York | | July 20, 2011 Was killing time between a wedding ceremony and reception and sought haven in this god-for-saken town at Saranac. Tastings are only included with tour but I missed tour but heard people drinking and had to beg to pay full price just to drink, its only 5 bucks but they acted like I was crazy. whatever the beer here has little selection or flavor however its a terrific building and I heard tour was good. they played old beer stein cartoons so i enjoyed myself despite staff and beer selection | | Photog (26), Camillus, New York | | December 19, 2010 This might be the best overall tour I’ve been to. Not a ton to taste but the rest of the tour makes up for it. Lots of pre prohibition history including alot of speakeasy antiques. You can taste their malt and hops. Their bottling facility is pretty intense. The tour staff is very knowledgeable. Really enjoyed it. | | Leighton (227), London, England | | April 27, 2010 I visited on the same "large private group tour" as jmulv. I can attest to the great value. We had all the beer we could drink before and after the tour, along with some pizza, raw veggies and various other edibles. The beer selection was solid; they had a style for everyone. The Tasting Room itself was quite lovely: High ceilings, lots of old hardwood, plenty of breweriana. The tour was great. The Brewery is quite nice, well-maintained, steeped in history. Guide knew his stuff and was friendly. Giftshop had some great items and prices were reasonable. A very positive experience overall. | | jmulv (18), East Greenbush, New York | | February 22, 2010 Went here on a large private group tour, so the value was incredible. The brewery itself is very classy, nice. The staff was extremely friendly. Beer selection was very solid. Good brewery, one of the only reasons to visit Utica. | | linc33 (29), Albany, New York | | August 11, 2007 Visited on a Saturday afternoon - interesting breweriana items in the gift shop, but actually a very poor selection of the brew they produce. Tried to buy a single Imperial IPA bottle they had lying about - they refused to sell it to me on the grounds that it was "old, and we don’t make that one anymore" - then tried to send me to some bev. centre down the street to try and find it! Refused to let us join the just-departing tour group and just generally unfriendly staff. Really irritated me - I don’t love Saranac by any means, but I won’t be back, and I’ll be buying even less than usual in the future. This place left a sour taste in my mouth, and no beer even passed my lips. | | UofFkid (32), Orlando, Florida | | July 12, 2007 This was one of the best tours I’ve been on. Staff was very knowledgable. Great history. Great tasting room. Great store. Truly enjoyed trip here. Can’t wait to get back to NY. Best rootbeer made, along with some very fine brews. | Palace536 (1), Schenectady, New York does not count - explanation | | February 28, 2007 I love this place. I went to college in Utica and went so many times that my friends and I could give the tour. There is so much history with this place. I would deffinitely reccomend going. The beer and soda selection is great and there is almost always something new in the works. | echucker (1), New York does not count - explanation | | December 23, 2004 Went long ago before I began enjoying beer (perhaps 8 years ago), on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. While I can’t speak for the beers that were served, the root beer was excellent. Rated median for all values, as my memory of the visit is fading |
