A cozy little cafe rather centrally located in Utrecht. The taps are mostly local and good, and there are quite some bottles available as well. The taps can be a bit pricy, but still reasonable. The owner is nice and very knowledgeable of the beers she serves. Lovely place!
I really enjoyed my visit here .. Great service from the lady behind the bar with chat about the beer’s scene in Italy and Holland.. The selection was better than other more famous places in Holland and I had a local sour fruit beer whiskie barrel aged that was pretty good .. Unfortunately like all the other beer bar I visited here or in Amsterdam no quality on the bottom fermented beers .. Very nice place if in Utrecht!
Visited on a saturday evening. Small place, but we were lucky to find a place to sit. My kind of atmosphere for beer tasting: no music, knowledgeable staff, love for alcoholic beverages is in the air. Good selection of plenty of Dutch beers and a variety of interesting international stuff. I will definitely return here.
Mijn favoriete craftbeer proeflokaal in Utrecht. Kundige barvrouw/eigenaresse, heeft verstand van bier!
And for foreign visitors: this is a ’proeflokaal’ which means they can only serve you if you have a seat, no seat = no beer = no entrance.
Visited on Saturday afternoon. Small pub, hard to find a place to sit. Nice local beers on tap, and great bottle selection, including rare beers from small European countries. Staff is nice and helpful.

We visited De Drie Dorstige Herten on Wednesday 30th September 2015. The bar is situated on Lange Nieuwstraat which is one street back from Oudegracht-Tolsteegzidje one of the busy canal thoroughfares in town. We had been here before so unsure why I hadn’t rated it prior to now. Both the Tap and bottle list are excellent and offer a wide choice with small Dutch micros and also international beers available. Inside this is a small but very tidy café with perhaps half a dozen tables (there might be more I wasn’t counting). The bar was ahead as you enter with tables of to the left and right and a large board on the wall off to the LH side displaying the current tap choice. I can understand some of the negative comments about the female owner, when I chose a beer from the extensive bottle menu asking her if she knew the style of a certain beer (this was clearly to inform my choice) her reply was a little bit abrupt ’of course I know the style’ it was as if she had taken a simple query as a test of her knowledge, which wasn’t the case at all. I wasn’t the least bit bothered by this but could see that she might rub some people up the wrong way. When she passed me my beer I looked at the bottle and made a comment that I had not heard of this small Dutch micro before, even this was met with a slightly mocking ’well I am not surprised you hadn’t heard of them, they are very small and from the east of the country’ once again I wasn’t in the least bit fussed but I guess to many she may come across as a bit harsh. However despite her communication style I actually quite liked her and there is no denying she had great knowledge of the beers. I also felt that she runs a very tight ship here, the whole set up runs really well and however she might communicate she really does know her stuff, she doesn’t suffer fools gladly and I wonder if she had been a Headmistress in a previous life.
Small craft-beer bar in the heart of Utrecht. Probably the best selection of Dutch and international micro-breweries in town. Great tap-list and very interesting list of bottles with some surprising rarities.
But let’s focus on the sore point... the staff is pretty unkind, even if expert in craft beer. The result is a place where you hardly feel at ease. The worst characteristic for a pub(lic house). Just a look to the reviews and you’ll find lots of clients who have been refused to enter. Once we cannot get in because, according to the (female) owner, we hadn’t enough time to properly taste a beer (they’re closing in 15 minutes...). Knowledge and competence fail where there’s no courtesy.
Tiny brown cafe, with the best selection in town in my opinion. Lots of stuff from local Utrecht micros, but also from established quality brewers like De Molen and Emelisse. International and barrel aged stuff is too pricey. The vibe is very mellow and low energy, great if you just want to catch up with someone. Been there many times, but can’t recall if they play any music... Staff is knowledgeable but not too friendly. Have had a couple of unpleasant experiences with the female owner being way too blunt and control freakish...Once she even refused us entrance because there were only 4 seats left at the bar, and we were with 5 in total... So beware of the infamous ’Dutch hospitality’... Would have rated higher otherwise.
