| Fin (243), Merton, Oxfordshire, England, England | | March 6, 2012 We visited here Thursday 1st March 2012 though had been here before back in September 2011. Service was very good and the barman was very friendly and helpful, he even popped outside to serve an old gentleman who had sat with a fag and with his walking frame and was unaware that you had to go to the bar to get served. Large choice of bottled Belgian beers and a decent choice on tap. Atmosphere lacking a little but I can imagine this would be busy in the evening (both of our visits have been at lunchtime) This is easy enough to find, alongside the main canal and just 10-15 mins easy stroll from the railway station. I liked this place and it is worth noting that this is only a few minutes from Café Derat which I would suggest is my favourite and possibly the best place that I have been to thus far in Utrecht. | | troubles (91), Tel Aviv, Israel | | October 19, 2011 20 taps, more bottles. Selection is belgian and dutch, very crowded place. If your in Utrecht, visit. | | MaartenRF10 (12), Wageningen, Netherlands | | October 14, 2011 Nice small pub with a stunning 20 beers on tap covering most beertypes. Beers are good value, not very expensive. | | Boudicca (205), London, England | | October 12, 2011 Café Belgie is on the main canal which runs through the centre of the city and it always seems to be doing a roaring trade, particularly late at night, with crowds of people spilling onto the narrow, cobbled street. It’s very much a student haunt and a bit seedy. We visited on a Friday evening and found seats at the back, near the kitchen, next to a huge grainy picture of the late King Baudouin / Boudewijn and his wife, Queen Fabiola, which covers the back wall. The other walls are rough plastered brick and there’s a niche high in one wall with, bizarrely, a statue of a Madonna and child. There’s a fruit machine and some sort of video game console.
Service was OK but a bit slow and not overly friendly. Apparently the bar staff double as bouncers and are hardened by having always to be on the look out for drug use and antisocial behaviour.
There are 20 taps, two of which were off, and 176 bottles on the list – mainly Belgian, as you’d expect. They serve food until 2030.

| | Cerveser (12), , Spain | | October 8, 2011 Really nice place, the draught selection is good. The bottle selection is about belgian and dutch beer, I’ll cxome back if I returns to Utrecht. | | baxterfish (125), , England | | September 28, 2011 Best beer bar in Utrecht. Good range of Belgian and Dutch beers at reasonable prices. Helpful service. Recommended. | | Travlr (637), Washington, Washington DC | | September 25, 2011 Small place with a big bar. High quality Belgian beers on tap intersperesed with macro crap. Large bottle list features many small Dutch breweries and their own beers which are not bad. Service is quick and friendly. Worth a stop if you are in Utrecht. | | mao (36), , Italy | | August 5, 2011 [ Updated September 5, 2011 ] Maybe best place in Utrecht | | erickok (36), Leiden, Netherlands | | September 27, 2010 [ Updated February 10, 2012 ] Always a nice atmospere here. Usualy very busy though and espacially the food-related service suffers from this. However, they do know their beers. A very large selection of bottles is available - mostly Belgian and Dutch - that aren’t always served in their own glass (but I guess that would be too much glassware). Prices are reasonable to cheap. Always a fair amount of different styles on tab as well. Food is reasonably priced comfort food - don’t expect too much and you have to be lucky to get a table. Recently they stepped up both in tap and bottle offerings, which is great! A very nice small Utrecht pub to gather with friends or just try a new beer. Avoid the weekends if you mind crowds. | | konstifik (36), , Sweden | | May 23, 2010 Lot’s of common Belgian and Dutch beers and a few odd ones. Prices are alright but could be cheaper. A bit boring interioer, but the atmosphere is nice. I expected a bit more from this place. |
