dhbowen (7), , does not count - explanation | | May 19, 2012 Prices might be a bit high, but, for the quality and location, it’s reasonable. Food was outstanding and high quality and quantity beer options. Bartenders and servers are super friendly. | | Gerbeer (10), vancouver, British Columbia | | May 17, 2012 Always busy as very popular, which can delay seating and service. Great tap selection. Good beer food. | BeerGuild (2), , does not count - explanation | | April 26, 2012 Wonderful selection of beers, the food is good pub food, not great. It can get very busy and the service suffers for it. All in All, a great place to have different beers. | | johanvan (13), calgary, Alberta | | April 10, 2012 The have a suprizingly good beer offering and they have some beer/food pairins which rival their wine/food pairings. A little pricey but it is Vancouver after all and this place is an institution. | | Farees (23), Edmonton, Alberta | | April 8, 2012 My favourite place in Canada. No TV’s or loud music lots of selection and good food. The owner is always there and obviously loves beer. Sit at the bar if you like to talk beer and get the best service. | | aj1451 (12), Vancouver, British Columbia | | February 10, 2012 I went on Wednesday, Feb 8 2012, It was a bit busy, we were 2 and seated right away, friendly host. The room is nice and always has.
The server acknowledged us right away but took 10 min to take our drink order. Her descriptions of the beverages were adequate, but a bit lacking for the high ratings that people give this place. The food was ok, and pub fare not bad, and not great. I had perogies, and my friend had a wrap. $15, a bit high but not outrageous.
The selection is what drew us there and I came for a specific beer. It was a great beer. I think a better experience would be to sit at the bar, the service it almost always the best at the bar.
Value, not great compared to other north american beer bars, (Zeitgeist in San Fran, or Monks in Philly), but totally on par with Vancouver and the Gastown area. I won’t be rushing back, but they do have a good selection. For that I will be back eventually. | | tiong (26), Espoo, Finland | | January 28, 2012 The best tap selection in Vancouver. A lot of great stuff is always on, and the list changes very rapidly. Samplers available, and the prices are quite reasonable. Food is pretty good too. Can get quite crowdy and noisy during weekends, but service is pretty quick even when the place is full. | | HenryXXX (10), British Columbia | | December 24, 2011 I really enjoy every time I get a chance to stop by. They always have great beers around!!!
| | Fish (11), Vancouver, British Columbia | | September 13, 2011 Overall a VERY enjoyable spot. It’s pricey, but the food is certainly worth it, and for the beer connoisseur passing through Vancouver, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better beer selection. The location of this place is fantastic-- Gastown-- great for a celebration with friends at the end of a long day of tourist-ness. It’s actually a pretty loud place. Not exactly a date restaurant-- my small group was seated at a long common table with two other groups. Again, kinda loud, not particularly private-feeling. On the website this place is called a "modern tavern," but I would call this place more of a "gastro-pub." The food is the hi-lite here. Excellent pairings are available with your beer selection, but come prepared-- the waitstaff are not particularly beer knowledgeable, and service can be a little slow at peak hours. Decor is understated, lots of LOUD, beautiful brickwork and concrete. Plenty of hipsties hanging out to make you feel like you chose the coolest place to drink and dine in Vancouver. |
