| GeneralGao (220), Iowa City, Iowa | | May 26, 2009 Visited this place around lunch time. Located on the second floor of a two story building in downtown Vancouver. The menu is basic pub grub. They had 20 or so beers on tap the day I visited. Most of them were Canadian micros, but none of them seemed to be real show stoppers. The service was a little grumpy, but not bad. Not a bad little place. | | Mads Langtved (51), Copenhagen K, Denmark | | February 1, 2009 Very nice atmosphere and good live music. Decent selection of micros and whisky. Not too many tourists. | | goatboy (16), Alberta | | January 29, 2009 This is a great local club to check out, There’s usually live entertainment, The staff are great, the ambiance is rich and the beers are good, but nothing too special or unique on tap, a great place to play darts or watch a band. | | Sammy (275), Toronto, Ontario | | February 20, 2008 The place to go after hours, and a cover fee of $5 on a weeknight, with a DJ and a bunch of craft beer on tap, as I agree with Tigglmtl that BC brewpubs, while frequented, are underappreciated. Nothing special on tap as that can be found in the otherwise unknown Alibi Room nearby. | | CapFlu (180), Victoria, British Columbia | | June 30, 2006 Review for June 21, 2006. A narrow establishment that occupies the whole second floor of the building of Dunsmuir and Seymour Sts. At the best of time you may get served, but this place seems to fill quickly and one needs to take it upon themselves to fight for a server at the bar. Old English atmosphere with the "Private Club" feel somewhat retained (much like the men only brasseries in Quebec). Courteous and efficient bartenders who know their beers and even the scores of the FIFA soccer games. Very good place. | | Crit (118), New Westminster, British Columbia | | April 20, 2006 [ Updated September 18, 2008 ] Good selection of local micros. The staff are all morons, including waitresses, cooks and bartenders, except for 1. But mostly self serve anyhow, so not a big problem. Food was nothing special but good..Beer is served mostly in Dimpled mugs, which as we all know, aren’t always 20oz, but are never less than 18, with a price of $5.25 for most beers | Hanratty (2), Vancouver, British Columbia does not count - explanation | | March 29, 2006 The Vancouver chapter of CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) BC recently awarded The Railway Club "BEST BEER CAFE, PUB, or RESTAURANT 2006" (along with The Whip). Good beer selection, but mostly entry-level micros. Food is OK, nothing special. Music every night, local hangout. Tour guides beer selection is outdated. | | JoeMcPhee (263), Jackson Heights, New York | | January 22, 2006 Finally made it here after living in the city for six years. Great space, old wood, brass, posters and concert paraphernalia from groups that have appeared here over the years. Good prices and a nice tap list. Service was so-so, but I like that you get a beer and don’t get a menu shoved at you. The night I was there there was some cool blues band playing. They’ve got lots of micros on tap, (including a few from Central City in Surrey) and they serve real pints. A great place to kill some pints when in the city. | | Oakes (422), Beyond the Great Firewall, China | | January 15, 2005 Great space - woody, brassy, old carpet - the Railway Club drips with atmosphere. Crowds of old men enjoy boozy lunches by day and live bands play nightly. The food is comfort-food only and OK. They serve proper 20oz pints. The bottle list is not very good. A place this atmospheric needs to phase out the macros completely. Still, it’s definitely one of the better places in town. |
