Visited on Thursday afternoon, when the place went from quite to busy filled with groups of people. Nice local selection and big Belgian trappist beers selection. Friendly staff, good pub food. Nothing much here for beer geeks, but a nice local pub.

Gorgeously looking brown pub/cafe with a large beer garden outside and religious imagery decorating the walls. 5/5 for style and atmosphere. Modest tap selection but if you're into aged Belgian style beers, they have a dusty bottle collection down below. Friendly staff who seem to enjoy their jobs. I wasn't that impressed with the beer selection, but this place is worth a visit for the atmosphere alone.

Lovely, classic brown pub hidden in a narrow street close to the station. Quite spacious, lots of wooden interior, some small tables attached to the walls with stools, a neatly decorated bar area and lots of beer memorabilia on the walls. There’s seating outside as well in a seperate area surrounded by stone walls and fences, looks great overall. About a dozen taps maybe including a Dubbel and a Tripel only made for them as well as quite a few beers from Gulpener, other than that less exciting but solid brews as far as I remember. The bottle list is very classic, Belgian-oriented with only a handful of Dutch micros available. Prices are okay, staff is friendly and attentive. This place is all about atmosphere, it’s probably one of the most authentic brown pubs I’ve been to so far, and since the beer selection isn’t bad at all, I would advise everybody to visit this place if in town. Very cool place, love it!

Great place to have a nice beer. The only one in Venlo with this range of beer

Tucked away in a side lane in the pedestrian area of Venlo, this pub is rather hard to find, but it is definitely worth a visit if you are in town. It has a spacious, cozy interior and a large patio, too. The staff are nice and friendly and they seem to know a lot about the beers they sell. The selection includes some local brews as well as a few Dutch and Belgian standards on tap, more so in bottles. The food looks good but I haven’t tried it yet, apart from the home made apple pie, which is simply delicious. Not cheap but definitely decent

Visited on Saturday 27th April ’13, around lunchtime. De Klep is about a 7 or 8 minute walk from the railway station but not that easy to find, tucked away down a pedestrian alleway of a small street. Despite a map at hand we still had to ask a local for help! De Klep carries a cafe style vibe housed in a single L-shaped room with the bar in front of you as you enter with a mix of tiled and wooden flooring. We were greeted with around a dozen beers on tap and friendly service from the young team behind the bar. The lighting was good in de Klep, a bug bear for me in some venues when trying to rate beer, with large open shop front style windows and chandeliers suspended from the ceiling. There is also a beer garden across the passage way opposite. Little pots of taty mized nuts are given to you as standard and replenished on a regular basis. At the business end there was a decent mix of Dutch and Belgian beers, nothing rare - the likes of Bink, Gulpener, La Trappe and they also had 2 house beers on Venloos Dubbel and Trippel. Solid bottle selection, much of which is in the caged cellar downstairs which is lit up by the toilet, although I enquired about the 2 most interesting items on here - Westmalle Extra and Westvleteren 6 and neither were actually there ! Great little bar - highly reccomended if in Venlo.

A relatively newly established specialist beer bar (3 months before my visit of Dec 2012). A good range of beer on tap and in bottle, including a large range of Trappists and belgian red and sour ales as well as some other special belgian and dutch beers. Very knowledgable and helpful staff with excellent service. I understand the availability of some beers was limited when I visited, but this is likely to improve in the future. Well worth a visit.

Tucked away in the centre of Venlo is De Klep. One has to have a detailed map to find it but is it worth it. Situated beside a church the decor was a very religious theme but extremely tastefully done. The service was excellent and very friendly including the owners. Thevselection of beers on tap was large and diverse. My only negative comment is that they were out of their brews temporarily but I manage to purchase some in bottles they had from their first batch. All in all it is worth a visit if one is in the area.
