| MXD (12), Gatineau/St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec | | July 18, 2010 Really surprised at the low number of ratings, for a place that’s been around for so long. Le Metro Joanette is a grocery store who sells LOTS of Quebec craftbrews and foreign beers, along with the mandatory macros. They have mead and other alcohols as well. Grocery store means low service and no ambiance, but their prices are consequently rather cheap. Good place to go, if you’re in Montreal and don’t need any tips. | Tabernak (1), does not count - explanation | | April 14, 2010 I’m surprised that this hasn’t been added to the list already. This is a great find if you live in Verdun. The selection of beers is better than any other supermarket in the whole city of Montreal. Mostly Quebec beers from every microbrewery in the province, but also a small selection of European beers, mostly from France. It’s not too pricey as it’s a supermarket. Check it out, it’s a 5 minute wald from De LÉglise Metro. | | godofsky (15), Montréal, Quebec | | January 4, 2010 i rated low on the service, because it is a grocery store. it is self serve, and if you have questions they will more than likely be answered by a high school kid who drinks molson. great selection of beer for a grocery store. i’m a butcher at a metro, unfortunately mine doesn’t have this kind of selection! | | DrDavid (20), Johnson, Vermont | | September 17, 2008 Visited this store today (9/17/08), and it is under new management. The new name is Metro Bellemare. Same address, same phone number. I do not know when the changeover was made official, but there were large posters in the windows announcing the management change. Fortunately, at least for the present, the beer department seems to be just as robust as reported by previous raters. Astounding assortment of Quebec craft brews, many of which I’d not heard of. Also, a decent selection of imports. Staff were very friendly when I asked for help, albeit with a language barrier. Excellent place. | | TheJester (33), Peterborough, Ontario | | January 13, 2008 Visited January 6th. Surprising to find all these beers in a supermarket chain. The place is easy to find, although parking isn’t great. The fact that this is a grocery store means that the ambiance and service aren’t going to be great - it took about 10 minutes for the poor girl to ring in $100 worth of beer - but the selection is great. As good a selection of Quebec micros as you’ll find anywhere, and tonnes of singles. The selection of Euros wasn’t that exciting. I don’t visit la belle province often enough to judge the prices, but they seemed reasonable. Please note that their website is horribly out of date. | | mabel (211), Toronto, Ontario | | August 13, 2007 In huge supermarket style, this grocery store is located in an easy to get to part of Verdun, right across the street from a tall church landmark. Steadily busy on a Saturday afternoon, the staff was helpful but stayed in the background. Impressive selection, stuff like Unibroue, St Urbain, Bras. et Freres, Griffon/McAuslan, Marche Joannette, Belgian choices, tons of Labatt, and everything in between in terms of local brews, plus there’s a big cider section. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area -- plus it’s just down the street from a nice sunny park on the river (where there was lindy hop dancing all afternoon!!). | IPALover (6), Carlsbad, California does not count - explanation | | July 15, 2006 Small supermarket not too far from the metro station. I found a large number of beers at this store that i’d not seen anywhere else in town. The prices were very reasonable and with such a great selection of individual beers and in packages this is an outstanding place to stock up your fridge.
They also have a few nice belgian beers. | | tupalev (56), Waterloo, Ontario | | March 6, 2006 Awesome selection, easy to find, nice glassware and other goodies. Great spot, will be my first choice every time I’m in town. |
