Used to often visit this place when we (a group from Southampton) were on our way from Calais to Brugge. Nice selection of beers, friendly service and a welcome pit stop!

Taverne Flandria is one of several cafés in a lovely old square in the centre of Veurne – a nice place to while away an hour or so watching the world go by if you’re travelling along the motorway to Calais on the way back from Belgium and want to break the journey. Flandria is the café with a glassed in veranda at the front and a green and white striped awning. It’s a family-run place and inside it’s decorated in a slightly fussy country cottage style with a beamed ceiling, tiled floor, electric candles, brown leather banquettes, carved wooden chairs with rush seats and a few prints of Veurne in the wall panels. There are six taps and 85 bottles including Boeteling, which is billed as a speciality of Veurne. The beer of the month (on tap) in June was Queue de Charrue Tripel Blond 9 degrees. They serve cheese and nibbles with the beer and also have snacks such as spaghetti bolognaise, croques, omelettes, apple tart and ices. (Visited 13 June 2011).

Attractive cafe of the sort found in most Belgian Grote Markts. This one has an above average beer list including most of the local brews(including Dolle). Used to sell Westvleteren at reasonable prices but, alas, no more. Good service.
