Its amazing how fast something can change in the city, under your nose even, and you don’t hear about it or take notice. About 8 months ago it was recommended that I head out to Liquor Plus’s Douglas store to grab a few bottles of Phillips Burley Wine - and though it was a decent bottleshop, it really didn’t hold anything to Spinnakers Spirit Merchant or The Strath. Now I hate The Strath because their pricing is the most expensive in town, likely $1 higher than anywhere else... while Spinnakers was the cheapest (save the BC Liquor Stores though the selection isn’t as good as either of these mentioned locations). Liquor Plus is a tad higher priced than Spinnakers but the selection in the last few months is unparalleled on Vancouver Island from all the locations I’ve visited. This place has started to put Spinnakers, Strath and Six Mile to shame. I suspect its due to their beer expert Rod Phillips (no relation to local brewing prodigy, Matt Phillips). Anyhow, cheers to the Islands finest. Keep this up and you’ll be competing with Brewery Creek as best in BC.
