| theisti (114), Leawood, Kansas | | August 8, 2008 [ Updated May 15, 2009 ] Visited during a very brief trip to Victoria. I did not have time to hit any brewpubs, asked one of the locals and they mentioned this place was the closest to the ferry. The interior was very nice, mostly a Wine shop, but does feature a couple of racks and a full cooler of beer. There were many local micro brews both available in six packs and bombers. I did not shop anywhere else, though this place seemed pretty spendy. The shop guy who helped me was knowledgeable, and very friendly. | | mgermani (15), Vancouver, British Columbia | | July 4, 2007 Very posh, nice decor. Beer seemed to be a bit of an afterthought, and selection was poor but prices were excellent - same price you could expect to pay for Spinnakers beers at the brewpub. A few surprises - Rogue and Canoe when I popped in - and the staff were friendly and knew what they were talking about. Will definitely pop in again. | | CapFlu (179), Victoria, British Columbia | | October 26, 2006 [ Updated July 27, 2008 ] A decent downtown bottleshop with a very limited yet unparalleled selection. I believe the prices here are better than Spinnakers - yet they are comparable. The Strath claims they are their own beer broker so I suppose theyd be able to order most anything provided the quantity is there. They also deliver locally on a bike which feeds my environmental side. Re-Rate on July 27, 2008: The Strath prices is quickly becoming the MOST EXPENSIVE beer store in BC. Compare these prices: Mill Street Coffee Porter @ the Strath $4.90 @ Brewery Creek $2.25 or check out this value for Unibroue 17 @ the Strath $11.99 @ Spinnakers $8.75. Just a heads up for those heading to Victoria this upcoming GCBF. Hopefully they will acknowledge these pricing irregularities and change if not, be warned and try to plan your trip so as to shop elsewhere. I have down-graded the Strath for this reason. | frink (3), coquitlam, British Columbia does not count - explanation | | September 10, 2006 A pleasant surprise in downtown Vic. The guys were quite helpful. Nice lookin’ store and a bunch of bottles not available in regular liquor stores. Too bad I dont’ go to Victoria often. | | Oakes (421), gone rambling, Vietnam | | October 31, 2005 [ Updated February 3, 2009 ] Lots of wood and cramped quarters gives this place a little bit of life, which is more than I can say for the stores you get in Vancouver. They had a pretty good selection all round, with many interesting products not found in government stores. Some of the beers I bought are only available in 2 places in all of North America - here and Spinnaker’s store. The selection of beer is not encyclopedic, but they do take care to bring in the spec products, which I suppose is the only reason a Ratebeerian would go. They also have Tugwell Creek meadery products. NOTE: HAS BEEN SURPASSED, RATING LOWERED. |
