| strongpieman (68), Mount Airy, Maryland | | February 12, 2012 Went for lunch and a couple of beers. Nice place, plenty of tables, big windows. Service was good for a restaurant but did not talk beer (didn’t think it would matter). Selection is pretty good... just their own with the staples and 3 or 4 special or seasonals. Prices are probably normal for DC, a little high for the real world. Food was very mediocre ... must be right from sysco.
I’d go back for beer but skip the food. | | gyllenbock (90), Stockholm, Sweden | | October 26, 2011 Visited on a early Wednesday afternoon in October 2011.
Not crowded at all with a modern and spacious interior.
Friendly service and descent pub food. ( I ate the Brew Master Burger)
The five beers that I drank were ok, except for the Capitol City Pumpkinator Ale which was not a favorite.
The location was very central in the nice city of Washington DC. | | Block (28), West Lafayette, Indiana | | September 6, 2011 Nice place. Only had beer and dessert and both were great. Flight at the time had ten beers. Nice environment and friendly staff. Worth the stop and one of the better "larger" breweries I visited in DC. | | mansquito (32), washington, Washington DC | | July 19, 2011 Came during happy hour. Was really crowded and we had some problem finding a table, not because there were no tables, but because only some tables were doing happy hour. Sat down and ordered some beers, which cost $3.50 during that time. The beers were ok. Selection was not huge, but it ran the gambit the day we were there. Keller Pils, APA, Porter, Amber, Imperial Stout, and the utterly dreadful Belgian Cherry. Food was cheap bar food and tasted like it too. Thi sis not the place to get your gourmet eats with gourmet beer; rather, it is a place where you take people whose palate can only tolerate cheap American food, when you might want to add another notch to your beer rating belt. Service was ok, but sometimes we really had to get their attention. Additionally, they virtually kicked us out after happy hour was done. I don’t think I will go there again, although, I can’t say that I didn’t enjoy my visit at least a little. | | weihenweizen (63), Charleston Area, West Virginia | | July 3, 2011 Went here for lunch in between site seeing. They were out of the hefeweizen which was a bummer. I had the club sandwich it was ok. The atmosphere is good though and my Belgian Cherry beer was good. Ratebeer does not have it on the map correctly it is south of the location shown on the corner. | | magsinva (55), Virginia | | May 14, 2011 Well the server was good, and prices were good for happy hour... | | Dogbrick (423), Columbus, Ohio | | March 24, 2011 (Visited 08/2009): This Capitol City location is right downtown on the corner of New York and 11th. There are pay lots nearby which is what we used, but there is surely public transportation nearby as it is close to Union Station.
The outside kind of looks like a 50’s diner with all the chrome and neon. The interior is spacious with windows nearly floor to ceiling. Hand-painted murals adorn the wall and the bar is U-shaped and near the entrance. The rest of the main floor is split level table seating, and it looked like there was an upstairs as well. They also have a lot of kegs up near the ceiling for decorations(?).
The beer selection is decent, although I was bummed this location did not actually brew beer on site. They have around 7 taps and the beers are available in a sampler. They range from an Organic Wit to a Smoked Porter, with everything in the middle being more or less standard brewpub fare.
Service was good on a weekday lunch. Both the server and manager stopped by several times and were happy to chat about beer.
The food at Capitol City is good. I had a crab cake sandwich that was solid. Good fries too.
Overall this spot is worth visiting between tourist attractions if you are hiking around downtown. | | BeerandBlues2 (358), Lone Tree, Colorado | | February 27, 2011 The set up is a little different from the other two locations in that there are no brew tanks at the bar. Otherwise, everything else is the same. The servers were running all over the place, but there were only two bartenders attempting to serve a packed bar and all restaurant drink requests. There were three seasonal on tap at my visit. | | ericschoon (11), Pennsylvania | | February 19, 2011 I vastly prefer the capitol hill version of this restaurant as I find it is often much more feasible to get a table there. The food/beer/service is about the same. This location can occasionally draw an overwhelming crowd, though. | jnkor (6), Tampa, Florida does not count - explanation | | July 15, 2010 Very nice atmosphere, just what you’d expect from a more commercial downtown brew pub. Selection was very limited, only to the in-house brews, but luckily a good mix of styles was available. Overall a nice way-point on a D.C. visit. |
