Small shop right next to the Dupont Circle North metro station. A small selection of six packs: Founder’s, Bell’s, Flying Dog, plus other locals. They seem to get the most of the grey market stuff: Deschutes, Russian River, DDC, Surly, Cigar City, pretty much whatever you can think of at a hefty markup. The staff is usually friendly although the beer guy lied to my face the other day about a special release. Definitely the place to go if you have money to burn though.

The south entrance of the Dupont Circle Metro stop will be closed for most of 2012. This convenience store is located to the east and just south of the north Metro station entrance. 750s of Tilquin 375s of Girardin. Host of american and local beers in a small space. Russian River, Founders, Lost Abbey and Bells. Wish I could remember if they closed at 9 or 10pm on a weeknight. Either way it was earlier than it should be given the activity on the street and the number of people in the shop. A man walked up to me and asked if I had tried the Tilquin geuze. I thought he had simply walked in off of the street and asked me this question because he did not look like he worked there. I was in a transitionary state of thinking during the encounter, as I was in the process of figuring out he did work at the convenience store, but since I had not figured this out completely during the brief encounter, I gave him quite a strange look.

This is a great place if you are looking for some hidden gems. Alot of beers, RR, TF, LA, etc. from the West coast, that are not distributed very well on the east coast find their way here. Although if you are from the west coast and do find them, you will notice quite the price hike (sometimes 300%). This is expected though since noone else sells them. I appreciate the effort that Al goes through to keep his customers happy (emails, holding beers, etc.). I would definitely suggest this place if you live in the DC Metro area or are passing through and looking for some good beers.

Little place almost hidden by it’s own awning just north of Dupont Circle. The mood of the place isn’t much different than any other liquor store, except for the notable difference that the staff makes small talk with you. They’ll talk beer for sure, or just what’s up in life. You won’t find greater service than that. The selection is beyond what most places in the area have too, thanks to Al’s ability to get a hold of beers from the west coast, and even some Surly from MN. The deli is gone, but the conversation is all I really need.

Small corner wine liquor and beer store, that specializes in stocking the good stuff. While their beer floor space is relatively limited (2 8’x4’ book cases plus 8’ beer cooler), they have some great gems. On my visit they were out of a lot of things, especially the lambics. That aside, they still had a nice cross-section of craft beers. Everything from Russian River & lost abbey on the west coast to rarer DFH on the east coast. The also had about 10 different Mikkellers. The prices were a bit steep, but I haven’t seen the Russian River or Lost Abbey anywhere else in NoVa.

Small shop but they make up for it with some random awesome selections. Picked up a Le Trou du Diable Dulcis Succubus today, and they also had Buteuse Special, CCB Guava Grove, Big Sound, and Humidor Jai Alai, and several other very nice things. Definite mark-up but given the area (Dupont Circle) and the convenience to the metro it’s hard to complain. Definitely a place worth checking out if you’re in DC.

Nice little place not too far at all from the Dupont Circle station, so plenty accessible to travelers. By not too far, I mean about twenty steps from the northern exit to the station. Small place on the corner, beer is to the left and back once you walk in. Not a huge number of beers, but there isn’t much of anything there that I wouldn’t mind drinking. Al is great and always extremely helpful. The e-mail updates aren’t frequent, but normally contain a few gems. Connecticut Ave. is perhaps the best in DC at taking advantage of the liquor laws and bringing in plenty of out-of-market beers. While they’re generally pricey, it’s nice to have that option. Most of the time these beers are fresh -- e.g., in the past week I’ve seen Deschutes Inversion IPA and Surly Furious that were less than a month old -- though occasionally some things slip, so I wouldn’t grab anything hoppy without a date code. All in all, definitely a place worth stopping. DC has pretty good distribution, and this becomes excellent when you add in the extra stuff available here.

Tiny place. Owner is keen on interesting bers, very engaging and helpful. Good selection that changes often, and the owner is willing to hunt down stuff for you, or refer you to other places to find stuff he doesn’t carry. A must-stop while in DC.
