80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 18/20 3fourths (1082) Straßgiech, Germany | February 22, 2012| Updated February 23, 2012 Went for Spanish food. Food was nearly all sourced from Spain. So less fresh and not as well prepared as it could be back in Basque Country. Quality bottle list for a restaurant, only one draft, no biggie, because they have 5 bottles of sidra, 3 of them sidra natural. How much more could they cost than €2 back in Gijon? $35-60. So I went with albariño and ate my way through the pintxo menu, and the octopus was grilled and just a little undercooked, and there were highly pixelated soccer matches and the boquerones were brought out in this mushy pile with one turned over so you could see some scales, and one was turned up in a knot at the end. | 78 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 15/20 Travlr (999) Washington, Washington DC | August 26, 2011| Updated February 23, 2012 Tapas bar in the heart of the U Street area (formerly prostitute alley). Full dinners available at a handful of tables and bar tables. Estrella is the only tap beer, but bottles include a handful of Surly stuff, DC Brau, a bunch of Spanish beers and ciders I’ve never heard of, and - slightly out of place - Tactical Nuclear Penguin. Extensive wine and port list with some interesting Basque stuff. Good food. Nice addition to my neighborhood! |
