90 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 18/20 bytemesis (223) Sunnyvale, California | May 23, 2013 I had heard a lot about this place and needed to check it out. Finally found a couple of Lawsons Finest beers on tap here, along with several HF and other tasty beers. They have a hundred or so bottles as well. The pulled pork was pretty damn awesome, and service was quite good. Half pours were $3 and fulls were $5, making them a hell of a deal. | 88 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 jercraigs (234) Toronto, Ontario | May 5, 2013 2013-04-26. Stopped in for drinks on a Friday night and it was very busy. We ended up standing which was fine for a short visit. Tap list was quite good, and there were some impressive rarities on the bottle list as well. We tried a couple of different Hill Farmstead beers on tap and came back for dinner the next night. Ordered two big bottles of Hill Farmstead (Clara, and Sankt Hans). I got a plate of "chopped bbq pork" with a side of beans and coleslaw, all of which was good but a bit different from what I pictured when I ordered it. The pork was finely chopped sort of meat salad with spices as opposed to the big chunks of pork I was picturing. Mabel got a very tasty mac and cheese. Finished with some HF Citra. My mouth wanted more food but I was stuffed. We sat at the bar which was nice but I think I’d try for a table if I was to go back. Staff was great and knowledgeable about the beer. Decor is cool, the massive bar just looks neat! Lots of brick, pretty noisy at night. | 86 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 18/20 tom10101 (36) Quebec | April 29, 2013 I went to Prohibition Pig on a Thursday at supper time. Ambiance was nice with good music and the place is quite nice too. Service has been very good. I think there was 24 tap-line, including some HF and Lawson’s, so the selection was excellent. Short but interesting bottle list too. Food was very good. We ordered and Vermont cheese plate and pretzel knots. The cheese pairing was really interesting. Price are ok. Highly recommended place! | 84 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 Advocate_Ames (27) Pennsylvania | April 3, 2013 I went to the Prohibition Pig for some food and I was also curious to see the beer selection. Not being from the area I enjoyed the brews that were offered. The look and feel of the place was pretty cool. It had some wooden keg decor, a large bar, big glass windows in the front, and it had high ceilings. It was very inviting. The staff that my party met was pleasant but not very attentive to our needs. As for the bottle menu it was impressive. Mainly for it’s quality not quantity. Overall after leaving this establishment I was not blown away. It is worth checking in to if you’re touring Vermont. | 76 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 ThirstyBird (14) Düsseldorf, Germany | March 30, 2013 This place was a bit of a let down on my visit. The tap list was OK but not as good as the other two places in town and of course the Heady was kicked. They had 23 taps but couldn’t find anything that wowed me so I grabbed an Edward to go with my Brisket sandwich and fries (pretty decent). I used the restroom before I left and when I came back (jacket still on my bar stool my beer was already taken away off the bar. Pretty lame service as the bar was quite empty...I took it as a sign though and decided that I really up for reprimanding someone over my last couple of ounces of Edward. | 92 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 18/20 rickhall28 (125) Denville, New Jersey | March 20, 2013 This is a really great place...a must stop if in the area...and worth a detour if anywhere’s close. The selection of local and regional craftbeers is amazing...Lawson’s...Hill Farmstead...Fiddlehead...Trapp...Heady Topper (when available)...a great Belgium style from Mystic down in MA to name a few. Also, the food is fantastic. I had a great VT cheese board...duck fat fries...the Bahn Mi sandwich...and a side of maple baked beans...finished with some bourbon maple bacon ice cream! The bartenders were very entertaining...and informative. In case you didn’t know...this was the Alchemist brew pub before the 2011 flood. After that the Alchemist moved into new digs up the road and new owners took over this place. That’s likley why they are one of the few places with Heady Topper on draft (keg kicked just before I got there...darn! But I still had my precious cargo in my trunk...a case of 16 oz cans!). A visit to the Alchemist Brewery followed by food and beer tasting here at The Pig is the perfect one-two punch! | 86 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 lachrymalisis (14) Pennsylvania | March 2, 2013 Great Bahn Mi, great selection of craft liquors, pickles were a bit lame on flavor, but the kitchen is certainly a success. Selection of the best Vermont has to offer, and some classics from outside the state. Beer was fresh, lines were clean, service was cool, crown was welcoming- a great place all around. Not crazy expensive, but getting up there. Great place. | 90 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 10/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 AirForceHops (77) Epping, New Hampshire | February 21, 2013 Stop in on Saturday February 16, 2013 for lunch and brews. The food was excellent. My sloppy Joe with Horseradish mayo and crispy onions was great. The hand cut French fries were fresh. All of the BBQ is made in house and comes from local farms. The service was excellent and everybody was friendly and polite. The staff here is very knowledgeable on the beer and know exactly what they are selling. I will return again. | 92 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 19/20 Pivoyager (72) Gaithersburg, Maryland | February 13, 2013 Housed in what was once the great - and much lamented - Alchemist, the Prohibition Pig is another venue to visit when in the charming (and beercentric) town of Waterbury, Vermont.
Located on the main street – and across from the Flyback Pub (See Review), the Pig combines savory local craft beer with succulent pig flesh – also local. While Alchemist was bright and airy, the Pig is dark and intimate, decorated with cranberry brick walls; it is, to say the least, very atmospheric. The bar is roomy enough, with enough veneer and polished wood to furnish several establishments.
Oh yes, they had Heady Topper on tap … nuff said.
| 84 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 lushawn (227) Massachusetts | February 10, 2013 quite the nice little bbq and beer joint. cuban sandwiches, pulled pork, all that kind of stuff. real nice beer list. bunch of hill farmstead, some uprights, a block 15 sour, lawsons, all kinds of neat brews. restaurant atmosphere, nice building. have a preference for blackback flyshop, but def would return. |
