| SamGamgee (182), down the whirlpool, California | | September 22, 2010 Definitely a funky, rural place. One bartender completely forgot about us and hung outside with her friends for like an hour so we had to find the only other person there to pay so we could leave. The beers that they bottle are alright, but their draught stuff ranges from just odd to outright bad (they were serving a clearly infected barrel-aged stout that wasn’t much of a stout to begin with). Almost feels like a hunting lodge or something and the brewhouse looks very science-fiction. I wouldn’t say that we had a great experience here, but we definitely had an experience. | | Unibonger (24), Mount Shasta, California | | November 25, 2009 Nice building with a real solid bar, reminds me of an old west style bar. Tons of bottles on the wall with an interesting basic decoration. Friendly staff willing to talk.Didn’t have any food but they have brats so I’m down with that. Growlers and 6 packs to go. Within walking distance of a disc golf course. $3 pints of the standard brews, $4 for a specialty/seasonal. | | bhensonb (375), Woodland, California | | August 7, 2008 It’s reasonably funky. Thursday is Bluegrass night, and we were there on Thursday. So the rating is based on a special night. It’s a local with local musicians (on Thursday). No smoking. Staff was continuously available. The beers are Mt. Shasta, and there is a slight variation in availability. The food was hot dog. But really great chile to put on it. So it’s way out of civilization, serves it’s own beers, and has limited food menu. But everything there is fantastic. I had to really talk hard to get 2 of the remaining 12 bottles Lemurian, but the owner came in and was agreeable. More is in the system. They don’t brew huge quantities, but it’s pretty good stuff. If this place was in San Diego, selection, food and overall would be less. But value? 4 large samplers, 2 pints, 2 dogs and 2 bombers for $20 flat (plus tips for staff and musicians). Musicians seem to play for stout and tips. Pretty good music. |
