A generic Marstons pub in a nice old building. The Hole in the Wall has five hand pumps, all of which had Marstons (Pedigree and EPA) or Marstons related beers (Mansfield Cask Ale and Wychwood Dirty Tackle) when we visited. The Jennings Tizzie Wizzie was off and the Marstons Old Empire was billed as coming soon but hadnít yet been put on. There are also around nine keg taps with the usual run of the mill products. The pub is in an attractive building, within the city walls and just a stoneís throw from the cathedral, but what could be a lovely interior has somehow been denuded of character so that it feels like just another pub decorated in corporate style. Itís OK, but doesnít do it for me. I expect it can get quite busy with tourists although it was very quiet when we visited on a Thursday evening in February. Food menus loom large and there was piped music, mainly 1970s disco music and the Spice Girls. (Visited 23 February 2012).

Lovely, decent sized pub with some nice ale always on offer. Quite family oriented with a little ambient music and a wide range of pub-level grub. Not a massive range of choice compared with some other places in town, but youíre always sure of a decently poured pint without much hassle.
