A tight, atmospheric bar right in the city centre by the outdoor market. Almost a corridor bar in character. The beer range is good and changing and the staff are knowledgeable. It has improved a great deal since our last visit. High up on our places to visit in York.

All things are relative and this little gem is a find for beer selection in the UK. Into the beer , friendly and cozy, plenty of free samples

beer is actually served at a reasonable temp which is ice cold compared to anywhere else in York, but in reality is probably around 8-10 degrees. Beer actually has carbonation. Atmosphere was kinda blah. No credit card or tab. Almost the complete opposite of Stumbling Madness. Good line up of beer, fyne jarl was great and had Marble emancipation. Unfortunately lacks open windows and on an August night it was fairly hot and stuffy

Bar crammed into an old building in the center of York near the Shambles area. Good selection of beers on cask and tap, plus bottled beers. Space downstairs opposite the bar abit limited, upstairs rooms had abit more space and were not too busy & had music playing. Worth visiting.

Quite impressed by this one, as usually the places with large international selections do so at the expense of lical real ales, or focus on bottles only. Here you can have your real ale and your international specials on draft keg sacrificing neither quality nor selection. All that in a friendly pub near the York Shambles, in an old character building. Well done!

Dirty, grungy place, kind of narrow and cramped, but on three levels so there is a good bit of space. Good selection of traditional and craft. Friendly, helpful service. Did not really enjoy very much.

Pivni is very conveniently located in central York. Itís a pub of two halfs... outside itís very traditional looking, whereas inside itís very modern and contemporary. Owned by the "Tap" family of pubs, however I did find the beer to be most different in terms of selection here. On our second visit they had a Thornbridge Tap-Takeover with plenty of cool stuff on draft (including aged casks). Bottle selection which included a couple of gems is displayed in a cabinet to the right of the bar. They also have a second floor which has regular live music. All-round a rather great pub.

Situated right in the middle of the city center this old fashioned pub with half-timbering decoration offers a great and well assorted range of bottled beer in addition to about 15 on kegs and casks. Same ownership as Euston Tap, Sheffield Tap and York Tap which pretty much gives an idea of their beer menu. Three floors with a long, narrow bar at the ground floor, seating areas at the second and the toilets at the third. The place was quite busy and crowned with students during our visit on a Saturday afternoon. Friendly service. A special and likeable ale house (visited, 26.01.2013).
