| Boudicca (205), London, England | | April 28, 2012 Possibly the most attractive station bar ever, with an exceptional beer range.
The York Tap has 20 hand pumps and 12 keg taps. Yorkshire, Derbyshire and Cheshire craft breweries were well represented when we visited but there were also brews from Lancashire (Moorhouses), Sussex (Dark Star) and Scotland (Thistly Cross and Tempest), among others. There are at least 80 bottles from near and far, from Manchester (Marble) to Maine (Shipyard).
Food is limited to the pork pies with various fillings (all £2) that are ubiquitous in York.
The Tap is by the entrance to the magnificent station building and, although it can be a bit chilly, it’s lovely and light with the windows and two domed skylights retaining their original art deco stained glass. If there were ever to be a remake of “Brief Encounter”, this would be an ideal location for it. Indeed, there’s an old black and white photo showing the place in days of yore – it looks very similar now but without the potted palms.
I understand that it’s owned by the same people as the Euston Tap but the York Tap is much better – it’s delightful.
(Last visited 27 February 2012). | | halfbaked (18), , | | April 4, 2012 Good selection of cask. The building was excellent! Really quiet on the midweek evening we went. Very convienient location near the train station. Pleasant. | | dynamiteninja (46), York, England | | March 3, 2012 Good range. | | dogbomb (27), , England | | February 19, 2012 Goodness! What a selection! So many beers, so little time! Brilliant surroundings, with an ace circular bar - you get a little dizzy just walking around looking at all the welcoming taps with their constantly changing array of ales. Nice bottle selection too. With it being so close to the railway, there’s sometimes a bit of a rowdy element in here, but they’re soon dealt with and escorted and otherwise it’s a nice relaxed atmosphere with some well informed bar staff. Brilliant. | | BeeryD (15), , | | January 9, 2012 Phenomenal cask selection, some very rare beers, outstanding surroundings. The Sheffield Tap’s younger, bigger sister is a very welcome addition to York! | | yanpilkington (15), , England | | January 9, 2012 [ Updated January 12, 2012 ] Best selection of cask in York, largest draft cask selection in the uk. |
