Located in central York, we just happened upon this place while wondering around and doing some touristy stuff. I was very surprised just how good the selection was. A very large selection indeed with over half of the room dedicated to UK beers and the rest to Belgium, US & RotW. Plenty of beers rare in the UK market. I was impressed to see a large selection of Kernel & Partizan! Even picked up a bottle of Fruet here. Prices seem reasonable for what they have on offer. An essential stop if you’re visiting York.

Huge selection. Staffer was a bit distracted. Ales from all over. Don’t miss it, if you are in walking distance from city center. Second day: Different staff. Much different experience.Up 2 points on service.

I must say, I’m surprised by the low rating on this one. This is an awesome beer shop! Excellent range, knowledgable staff, reasonable prices and very accomodating trading hours. Excellent. Ratebeerians, I implore you - visit, rate, and bring the score up to something more like what it deserves!

A four-sided room with a great range of bottled beers is located at the rear of a shop that sells a bit of everything. The selection of beers form local breweries in Yorkshire was especially interesting. From the shop there’s access to a small café/pub/restaurant at the first floor, and in the basement there’s an outlet for spirits. We noticed that the price for bottles from Norwegian breweries like Haandbryggeriet and Nøgne Ø was much lower than in Norway. However, we went for quite a few bottles from Redwillow. The shop is located right in the heart of the city (visited, 26.01.2013).

An Aladdin’s cave of a shop with a superb collection of bottled beers. The selection of beers from Britain is possibly unrivalled and, although it’s less strong on American beers and other non-UK bottles (except for Belgian beers and Nogne O), the choice is excellent. They also sell meats, pies and other delicatessen type food in the small shop front area whilst the back room and the basement hold most of the beery goodies. The magical House of Trembling Madness bar and restaurant is accessed via a staircase on the left, inside the shop. (Last visited 25 February 2012).
