Lovely town, to begin with. Beautiful modern brewery with a good old-fashioned beer garden out back. tons of beer available, good food too. What's not to like? A great place. Period.

Visited 9.10.17 for lunch. Bright and big restaurant in a nice little town. Parking was slightly challenging with some hostile signs in the street, but a few meters up the road and we were fine. Seems a little touristic, but in a good way, as the menu is comprehensive with plenty of beer on tap (relatively to the area, right?) and some in bottles. We drank 4 beers there, and besides the keller (the reason for coming, that 1001 beer book again) that was a little buttery, all were in prime condition and very well made. Food was good - vegetarian options available and 1 hearty vegan dish, all reasonably priced, seasonal beers - One of the top destination in this beer tour.

The town itself is a beauty to see, and the path to the brewery is cobbled; the stube is classic, old but warming, with middle age local folks enjoying their beer. The beers are very fresh, some from fass.

Traditional Brauereigaststätte, called "Zur alten Freyung" on the edge of the old town of Zeil, Untrerfranken. This is already in "Weinfranken", but the beers are very good. Traditional food, good value and good and friendly service. The restaurant is big, but service remains good even when busy. Back courtyard. The filling dept. + warehouse is located in a industrial unit west of town, with the offices and their beershop (Wildgarten 12).

Zeil is a sleepy little town in a grape growing area. Easily reached by train from Bamberg, the brewery isn’t too far from the station. The main reason to come here is because this brewery brews about ten times as many types of beer as most other breweries in this part of the world. Kellerbier, dunkel, rauchbier, bock, pils, weizen.... and so on. Despite the broad focus, the beers are top notch. There’s probably half a dozen on tap and then several more available in bottles. We sat in the courtyard which has a nice view of the surrounding hills but is otherwise nice but unremarkable. Service was really friendly and willing to put up with my appalling German, which I presume means they don’t speak any English. Food is typical Franconian stuff, but done very well on our visit. Any easy side trip from Bamberg without having to go to the hassle of figuring out buses or hiring bikes. Definitely recommended, but not essential.

A bustling gaststube - even in mid-afternoon, which makes the big room just a bit smoky. 11 beers available, served by a pretty and very friendly bartender. The food looked delicious, but we didn’t eat.
