| ragesaq (10), Arizona | | November 27, 2008 This is the Nimbus BrewPub, and it fits the description quite well. Nice laid back attitude and decor.
They only serve their own beers, including exclusives that don’t get bottled. Their beer is decent, so this point go could either way.
Their food is good and very fresh, their burgers are probably the best in town, and its not too expensive and the service is fairly quick. | | fordest (62), Santee/San Diego, California | | September 18, 2008 It’s a good thing this brewery distributes their beer. I would think that the location here is just not enough to bring people in. Dark, dark street as I made my way down there, I actually got nervous. Parking lot was just as dark. Lucky for me the glowing OPEN sign was lit, or I might have turned around. Selection was OK, mostly everything that is available in bottles. One Seasonal variety. Food was average pub fare, but I enjoyed it. Service was good, but hey I was almost the only one there.
Glad I came. | | bsierra (11), Vista, California | | May 30, 2008 [ Updated January 9, 2009 ] Visited Nimbus from sunny Ca. to meet big Jim (owner) and talk business. Place is a little off the beaten path, but well worth the drive. Inside this old industrial building is wall to wall entertainment, from the old school bottling machine, (still used today for bottle distro) at the far end of the building, to the awesome artsy feel throughout. The selection of beers at the time of my visit was of course all Nimbus and boosted a very delicious smoked porter, a fabulous belgian strong, Nimbus’s kick-ass pale on nitro, and the rest of the insane house brews from headbrewer Scott. Old monkeyshine will ALWAYS be one of my favorite beers, the 8.2abv is masked completely in this roasted malt bomb, and the brown ale is always awesome as well. I have heard from other visitors that there’s usually great live music from a miriad of different groups and diverse musical tastes. Big Jim is a riot, super nice guy, incredible artist, (that’s all his artwork on the beer labels and all the tee’s | juandela (1), kalamazoo, Michigan does not count - explanation | | May 12, 2008 loved the beer.... until the staff ruined our experience. the beer and food were both a pleasant surprise in the middle of the desert. the pub setup is a recipe for disaster. a bartender has to come find your table and deliver your food.... when he’s not busy behind the bar.... and doesn’t mind climbing the stairs to the balcony (provided you’re sitting there). my wife and i were visiting my folks in tucson and hit the pub 3 times in a week stay. by the third trip we could tell there were serious issues with the personnel. my parents continued to bring large groups of friends until the bartender, john, explained his awful service by saying you people never tip (both untrue and WAY out of line). i have to say, i enjoyed the beer, the entertainment and sometimes the food. having family and friends treated in this manner is completely unacceptable. i made contact with the ownership via email and after explaining the situation and providing my parent’s number and address, nothing was done. i’ll never visit the pub again, won’t drink the beer and regret the two t-shirts i bought. so much of the american craft beer movement is about customer service and the people at nimbus don’t even pretend to know anything about it. on our next trip we ventured out to thunder canyon and gentle ben’s both better beers and experiences (tc - marginally, gb - by a MILE). | | hellbilly (64), scottsdale über alles, Arizona | | May 12, 2008 hard to find, poor service, good beer and great folk kitsch. i’m not sure exactly why i like it... | sjssjs (1), does not count - explanation | | March 26, 2008 The funny logos, good beer, and good food at Nimbus Brewing Company could NEVER EVER make up for the most AWFUL service experience I had there.
To make a long story short, bartender Lena not only messed up our food order twice, but was extremely rude for the entirety of our visit! From the moment I stepped up to the bar to place the order for my table, she practically yelled at me for trying to order beers for my friends. All of us are of age and we showed her the ID’s, but apparently she still thought we were trying to get away with something.
She even started arguing with me and making accusations, while the manager passively stood there and let his employee yell at a customer.
My friends and I had researched this place over a year ago and were very much looking forward to Nimbus Brewing Company. We really wanted to like this place. If we had received mediocre service, we would have loved it. Unfortunately, we received the worst service I’ve ever experienced.
It’s DEFINITELY NOT worth it. | | beerchurch (28), | | March 18, 2008 Any beer lovers visiting Tucson should make the effort to find Nimbus. It is a bit difficult to find in its extremely industrial location but it’s worth it. We found it after dark thanks to our new friend Tom Tom. The bartender was knowledgeable about their beers, which we appreciated. We told him what we liked and he made an appropriate recommendation. The Pale Ale was a good representation of the style and we enjoyed it enough to take a six pack to go. We sampled other beers, but our IBU fetish kept us pretty much focused on the Pale Ale. We liked pretty much everything we tasted. It’s a cool set up. Big warehouse type of setting. Lots of seating. Plenty of room for the band. Nimbus has great merchandise if you are looking for a T-shirt to take home for a friend (or yourself). Bottled beer and growlers to go. We are Washington State beer snobs, so when we travel we often find other parts of the country to be vast, barren, wastelands of beerless sorrow. We were very happy to find Nimbus! Don’t know about the food because we didn’t eat any of it. We were also very happy to find Nimbus Pale Ale at the convenience store next to our hotel in downtown Tucson. | | Bockyhorsey (52), Mesa, Arizona | | January 23, 2008 Thoght I had rated this one but guess not. First time we went there was in 06 at night was smokey due to the wind blowing in the wharehouse style building stuckture. Visited October 07 and no one was there really in the afternoon. Service was good although had to get up and go to bar each time wanted I wanted a beer, no waitress or waiter service little odd. But if your service in getting your our beer is bad you have no one to blame but yourself I guess. Had some seasonals on tap this time. First visit had nothing but regular beers on tap. Just had some natchos for food were not the best. Could smell someone cooking up good grub but we had just ate an hour or so before we got there. Not a bad place old wharehouse made into a brewery and pub place. They bottle lot of their beer so that is cool if you cannot go to place can get thier beers at liquer stores. Decent place worth a visit if your in Tucson. | | DoubleBubble (12), Mescal Lakes (wherever that is), Arizona | | January 12, 2008 Food is great here and you get pretty good portions. Beer is good, but they don’t vary much with the styles of beer. Usually it’s always the same ones. They do have one special one usually, but sometimes that one special one lasts a few months. I do love their oatmeal stout. Somewhat hard to find, but worth it when you do. | | highibus (14), Mill Creek, Washington | | December 5, 2007 Best local brewpub from an overall beer perspective. No frills, but it sure is nicer looking than it used to be. Used to be just old couches and a small bar. Now at least it is presentable and I can take the family if I so choose. Great food, good beer. Just wish they went a little more exciting with the styles. Always a good stop if you can find it. |
