Best pub Iíve been to. Great atmosphere, friendly owners and a mind blowing catalogue of really special, rare and aged beers, both on tap as bottle.

A review without rose-tinted spectacles... Ambience: In the front itís a bit dank and smelly. The back patio is a bit less ístuffyí. Chamber music in the background is not my thing. Itís quite dirty and doesnít seem very hygienic. Service: The lady told me it would take 5 minutes to get my beer, thatís ok. The fact that it took 25 minutes wasnít ok. Selection: Geared towards aged beers. Sometimes it works, sometimes not so itís a gamble. Possibly an expensive one. Thereís a good choice of Lambic. If you take away the aged beers then the selection is not so great. Value: Prices seem ok. Many beers are around Ä3.50.

Visited on our recent trip to Europe. We stopped in for a couple of beers would plan to go back for a longer visit in the future. Old school looking bar inside with random seating both in and outside. We sat outside that had a clear cover over us where the local cat sat above us. It lives up to its outstanding list of beers that comes in a large beer bible that weighs 5 pounds. One of the largest selections (not quite the best) that Iíve ever seen. The service was great as the staff greeted us immediately and provided suggestions on where to sit and what was available. Drank vintage Rodenbach that was still holding its own. The ambiance was very laid back with its share of locals and pockets of beer nerds from other countries. Overall, lives up to its reputation on selection, price and service. The location is not readily accessible by everyone but worth the 45 minutes drive North from Brussels if you are willing to drive. Plan to visit again on a future trip to Belgium.

We visited Kulminator last year in our trip to Antwerp. Since you cross the door there is a feeling that you are in a special place. The interior is nothing like the modern beer bars, this place is part of history. Full of beer lovers from all around the world. Their vintage bottle list is endless and reasonably priced. We had a lovely evening in the backyard terrace.

Best beer pub in Europe. Unlimited selection of beers, mostly Europeans, many vintage ones, and most importantly not expensive. Friendly owners, great atmosphere.

I will preface this review by saying I only had time to enjoy one vintage beer before catching the last train back to ghent. This small bar is absolutely loaded with beer memorabilia. The proprietor was sitting at one of the tables with loads of papers and empty bags strewn across it. I sat down at the bar and ordered a 2005 orval and stared in awe at their massive beer list while harpsichord music played quitely in the background. This place feels like it has loads of history and really knows how to curate a beer list but overall from an ambiance perspective wouldnít be a place iíd like to hang out in for more than just a beer. I appreciate the years of love it must have taken to achieve such a wonderful cellar.

The bottle selection is of course phenomenal, but it did seem as if it hadnít changed in years. The cluttered, library like environment only strengthened the sense that the place hasnít really evolved at all since who knows when. Thereís a positive intangible effect of this, character wise, which is obvious and palpably apparent. Ultimately, for me this was the classic "great place to visit but not to live."

Visited twice on the same day with Tom. Very strange place, I had no idea really what to expect so this hole in the wall bar held by a hoarder was a bit of a surprise to me. The ambiance is fun but not very comfortable, crowded and cramped. Service was a bit slow, but she was kind though. They have one heck of a beer menu, but it is mostly just old bottles (some are nice, some are aweful). Food is cold snacks. The value is through the roof in the sense that it is quite cheap for a lot of really nice beers. Glad to visit, but this would not be my regular hangout if I was in Antwerpen.

Visited twice on the same day on a Friday afternoon and evening. A really unique ambiance in a place that seems to be stucked in the past. Some tables arenít available for seating because thereís piles of papers and newpapers... the owner seems to be an intense hoarder. The service was slow, but itís undertstandable considering everything was done by one of the owners. She was really friendly though. The selection is interesting, especially if you are looking for old Belgian beers and thereís a couple good beers on tap. We had a bottle of Stille Nacht Reserva 2005, Pannepot Special Resere and Lindemans Cuvťe Renť 2002 as well as a bunch of random ticks that arenít available anywhere else (like Timmermans Gueuze Caveau). Thereís not much rarities on the menu (though thereís probably a bunch left in Dirkís cellar). Value is good on most of the bottles, but some semi-old bottles are a tad heavily priced. This place is definitely worth a visit a least once because itís kind of mythical. But, Iím not a believer of aging Belgian beers (except lambics of course), so itís not a place that I plan to visit again often. Too much of a gamble.

I have been coming here for years and I still love coming here. The place still looks like your grandparents living room with board games, old useless books and cats walking around the place. I love drinking Avec les Bon Voeux on tap here having said that, this is mainly what I drink here these days as a lot of the more interesting bottles have disappeared over the years. A huge chunk of the menu consists now of random Belgian beers that are largely past the point of being enjoyable now to be honest. The prices for some beers have doubled over the years & some of the prices are just ridiculous. There are a lot of tickís still here to be had but a lot of the stuff at this point is just that, tickís and not fine beers. I might be just saying that as a lot of the bottles that I used to love drinking here have vanished from the menu as they disappeared. There used to be a couple of beers & vintages here which were at a great price point and tasted amazingly but a lot of them have gone now. You can run out of things, that happens but things just run out these days and the replacements are rare these days and often very, very pricey. The place has been overrun by tourists who drink Leffe or beers just so that they can brag that they drink them. It is still a cool place but the ranking these days is becoming a bit silly in my opinion. I do still love coming here to drink more Avec les Bon Voeux and hang out a familiar place, I do remember this place being cooler when I first started coming here. They still have things like old vintages of Chimay, Oerbier Reseva etc. but you know it just used to be more awesome & from what I hear it used to be even better before I started coming here.
