20 AMBIANCE 1/5 SERVICE 1/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 1/10 OVERALL 1/20 Adamlr23 (1) California | April 21, 2013 I shopped in several local beer stores on my trip and the attitude here is is the worst!! The only bad encounter I had in Bruges at all was in this shop! Other than that the people are delightful and they have a great city.
This store was the second place I visited, and being that I intended to buy several beers and make a large purchase I asked for some advice. The woman rude to begin with, which I was going to let pass (I just came from Paris). But definitely I thought it was strange that she scolded another tourist near me for snapping a photo. We all do that these days! Anyhow when I asked about the Westvleteren 12 she had displayed (with a very reasonable price) she refused to sell it to me and said it was for "display only". I picked it up and showed her there was a price on all of the bottles and she literally snatched it from my hand and put it back (and muttered what sounded like something dirty about Americans under her breath). Needless to say I was totally dumbfounded by this put down the basket I had collected and left. If she doesn’t want the business of Americans, I say don’t give it to her! The Bier Temple down the block was very friendly and sold me the exact same beer, no fuss. What that woman’s deal is I will never know, but there are too many good beer stores in the area with great selections for me to recommend a fellow American shop here where we are obviously not wanted. and it’s too bad, looked like a cool store, and easily could have been. But if your American do me and yourself a favor and go somewhere else. | 70 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 14/20 Theydon_Bois (372) The ’Sham, England | January 1, 2013 Have visited a few times on trips to Brugge.
Selection is decent enough but nothing particularly rare.
They occasionally have something interesting but beware the silly prices that sometimes appear on such products. Pricing on the standard Belgian stuff is fine but I’ve seen one or two sillies in the last year presumably trying to catch out tourists.
Central location so worth droppping buy.
Clientele is pretty solid tourists buying Kwak packs with glasses and fruit beers, expect to queue for a bit! | 70 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 14/20 happyhoppy (44) , France | September 3, 2012 A very touristy beer store next to the city center. They do have a decent range of Belgian beers in bottles of various formats and glassware. A bit pricey but cannot help considering their location and amount of tourists flocking in. I found the store to be a bit more cheaper in contrast to the other stores around the city center. | 76 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 maharwojo (10) , England | July 25, 2012 Not the cheapest, as just off the Markt & rather touristy, but a great selection. | 76 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 15/20 richdorchak (11) Alexandria, Virginia | May 30, 2012 Nice selection of Belgian beers. They have some large format bottles in here (Rochefort Christmas 8 in 1.5L format, Chimay in 3L, etc.) in addition to hundreds of regulars at competitive prices for Bruges. Bruges is an expensive tourist city, but of all the bottle shops in Bruges, this one is the least expensive.... | 72 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 14/20 SaintMatty (147) Uppsala, Sweden | May 13, 2012 A decent range of beers and glasses can be found in this rather busy and spacious shop. They had several Fantome bottles as well as some other relatively hard to find beers. Friendly service. | 50 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 3/10 OVERALL 7/20 AMcD (10) , | May 2, 2012 Nice shop but very touristy which is reflected in the pricing. | 80 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 16/20 Ibrew2or3 (300) Tempe, Arizona | April 27, 2012 Typical Belgian bottle shop with organized yet crowded shelves. The beer seems to be organized by styles which can be very helpful. The help was friendly and they carefully wrap up and bag all you beer for you. I walked out of there with 7 or 8 bottles. They didn’t have anything super rare but they are also selling more obscure and interesting selections. The prices seemed reasonable. Certainly worth a stop. | 76 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 13/20 BlackHaddock (228) , England | April 2, 2012 Impressive one roomed (big room though) beer selection. You are left alone to wander around, help is available if required; two females on duty when I visited, the young one spoke English, the elder not so well versed. Each bottle I bought was wrapped and placed in a bag for me, only beershop to do that in Brugges.
Just as expensive as De Bier Tempel and 2be, with about the same number of beers to choose from. I got my Vicaris ’Generaal’ and ’Tripel’ as well as three ’St Idesbald’ beers from the Huyghe brewery here.
| 60 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 4/10 OVERALL 10/20 jfb (65) , Germany | March 7, 2012 Plenty of room here, with a very nice beer selection for Bruges standards. Very near the market, which the prices sadly reflect. Quite good for grabbing one or two of the more elusive bottles you wouldn’t get anywhere else in Bruges. |
