| madmitch76 (10), , England | | November 13, 2009 We got here on a Saturday afternoon (massive thanks to Harrsoni for all his driving). Service was very slooooow for the first beer but then once we had one beer things flowed very nicely and a splendid evening was had by all.
You can order with confidence from this cellar - regardless of the age of the beer - they have been well cared for and are still drinking great. I had the last ’Minty’ much to the disgust of my fellow Ratebeerians but the point is this 18 year old gimmick beer was fresh and very drinkable. The food was good but if I am honest I have had better beer cuisine elsewhere in Belgium. Sour beer lovers (I’m not really one of them) are spoilt for choice here. Looking forward to going back someday. | | beerlover73 (10), Marseille, France | | October 5, 2009 the vintage menu is the best thing, but not always the vintage beers are so nice as they could be... May be reading the other ratings I had big expectations but finally I had good food and anything else... nothing excellent | | Beerlando (43), Orlando, Florida | | September 3, 2009 Hands down the best beer location I have ever been to......period. Let’s start with the bad. OK, if you’re a traveling tourist, this place is a BEAR to get to. Your options are a train ride and a 30 minute walk or a 70+ Euro taxi from the Brussels city center (one way), the later of which we opted for. I found myself cursing my decision to ride all the way out to Denderleeuw to check this place out.....until I walked in and sat down, that is. From the breach of the door, one is met with unparalleled hospitality. Welcomed in as a family member, you are invited to partake in a culinary experience unlike any other. Traditional Flemish cuisine, presented in gastropub fashion, is out of this world good. Never pretentious....just damn good. We opted for scampi’s in hell sauce, Flemish meatballs, and a sort of bouillabaisse, all outstanding. Service was laid back but impeccable, each staff member genuinely concerned with our perception of the food and the experience. The beer list? Second to none. End of story. The best beer list of any restaurant on planet earth. Where else can you get J&J Blauw, J&J Roze, and Crianza Helena, all created for this very place!? Not to mention the other two exclusive non-lambic beers that are less heralded yet impressive and tasty. These folks ae so nice, they gave me two beers as a simple "you have to try these" type of gesture. As our dinner progressed, we began to worry about our prospects of catching the train back to Brussels......SO OUR SERVER OFFERED TO DRIVE US TO THE TRAIN STATION! Are you kidding me? She didn’t know us from Adam & Eve, and for all she knew we could have been axe murderers on holiday in Belgium. Nevertheless, we arrived to the train just in time to return back to the hotel, thoroughly impressed and forever grateful for the incredible hospitality. YOU. MUST. VISIT. Plain and simple. It will seem like a major inconvenience, and you’ll kick yourself for making the trek right up until you walk through the door.....but once you do, it will be all worth it. | | bhensonb (286), Woodland, California | | July 19, 2009 Sunday lunch with Marcus. Walked from Liedekerke Station in about 20 minutes. Just excellent place. Any number of really good beers. Some not easy to get. Crianza Helena, Cuvee de Rankee and Bush de Nuits. Food was quite excellent. A lot of beer, two appetizers and one entree came in under 90 euro. The chef threw in a free small introductory plat. I think. Had had a lot of beer. Beers were 1 to 3 euro cheaper than Brussels. Some perhaps even less. Food was fresh, attractively served, and delicious. Some beers were offered at a choice of temperature - chilled or cellared. Does it get better than that? | | ChristianScheffel (62), Odense, Denmark | | June 12, 2009 Outstanding beer place. Totally dedicated to the beer they serve. We were lucky to be there at a hot and sunny day, and spent 9 hours drinking world class beers and getting lunch and dinner. The staff know what they are talking about, and they want to share. It was a little slow at time, but of course, that’s probably how we managed to last nine hours. The selection is, of course, world class Belgians, and the food is good and filling everyday meals. | | Dedollewaitor (75), Odense, Denmark | | December 25, 2008 Food is brilliant. Prices are Cheap compared to rest of Belgium. Beer: A wide selection. Vintage beers, Superior and the best in Belgium. Service is: Kind, helpful & knowledgeable. My experience here, last week, was simply the greatest ever. Thanks a lot to the whole staff for the sublime experience and service. | CafeeOndineke (1), Aalst, Belgium does not count - explanation | | August 26, 2008 an example to every establishment as it should be! Looking forward to the beerfestival in september! | | DSG (41), Tel Aviv, Israel | | August 18, 2008 The best beer place I’ve ever been to.I came to this place two days in a row and it was definitely not enough. If you come here by train it’s not too close to neither Liedekercke not Denderleeuw station but it’s well worth the 15 mins hike from Liedekercke stations (just walk straight to the center of the village and ask someone there, it’s really close). Service was really good and helpful all the time. The beer list is the best I’ve encountered with loads of Lambics and a long vintage list (you have to ask for it). Some beers I’ve had there: Rodenbach Alexander, De Troch Gueuze, J & J both Roze and Blauw, De Neve Gueuze, an old bottle of Whitbread Extra Stout and a few years old Orval. Unfortunately other beer lovers finished the stock of some of my most wanted Lambics just the week before I got there, but there was still plenty to choose from. Beer prices (even for the rare vintage beers) are really cheap. I’ve had soup and vegeterian lasagna to eat which were very nice. If you don’t eat you get some free cheese with the beer. The beer Pralines are really delicious. Have I said this place is amazing already? | | BrandUP (10), Amsterdam, Netherlands | | June 20, 2008 Thias is an restaurant but not a greatt beer bar. Good food but not nice to drink any beer without food! | | lassem (24), Copenhagen, Denmark | | June 6, 2008 We had some rabbit in guezue - lovely. Went on an expedition in the vintage beer map - and had some that was way to old....but it was fun. The beer list was huge, the service excelent. Ill go there again |
