Gruut No English tours when I went so I just poked around the tiny brewhouse on my own. Very small it'd be pretty typical in Japan. The staff was happy to chat a bit & give me a rundown of the brews. I ordered a taster, 11€ for 5 beers, and got to work sampling them. The space is small and surprisingly modern. If in Gent pop in, wifi also available.

Gruut’s brewpub, or rather café, which I heard has to move elsewhere. Fit to relax a bit on a sunny afternoon, but lacks a bit of atmosphere. It is however interesting to be able to see the brewery inside. Serves only Gruut beers as far as I remember, which is fine of course, but I would not recommend going there for that alone, as these beers are easily available throughout Ghent and its surroundings.

Fairly central location and relaxed atmosphere. Service was quite okay, but when it got more crowed it was certainly difficult to get any attention. Food was mediocre and the same was the beer I tried. Three small samples are available for €6,50. Both beer and food was fair enough and the place in it self was kind of cool. Worth dropping by if one happens to be in the neighbourhood, but I wouldn’t go out of my way for this one.

Very good place. Beer is very special here - they a spice called gruut instead of hops. The result is very nice, especially with light beers.

Visited in 2011. They only serve their own beer but you can get a sample tray. Not the best beers in the world but worth a visit.

Nice brewery and friendly tour. Tried the different beers they had. Didn’t find any others, logically. Didn’t have the menu, only the small samples that did go with the samples of beers.

Visited several times over the last few years, both in summer and autumn. The potential for this ideally located small scale house brewery near the water is much higher than what they seem to make of the surroundings and interior. Every time we were there service and atmosphere were lacking, and 1 waiter busy with one large group of tourists/brewery visitors who had booked the full meal, resulting in long waits. Beers themselves are tasty, but less inspired than their medieval basic concept would suggest. Only tried little bites, nothing from the menu. Sitting outside in summer has its charms, but overall I would like to be more fond of this Ghent landmark--. Suggestions: introduce a few guest taps, bottles and knowledgeable servers.

Easy to get to & not too far from the city centre. Located next to the water, inside is very interesting. Modern and beautifully designed building. Lots of work went into this place & it looks beautifully. Be sure to check out the Rolling Stones themed urinals. Service was good, the servers appeared to be all job students. Still despite this one of them was very well informed about what they do, lots of explanation was given upon request. They have booklets with info available and they answered all of our questions. As far as beer selection goes, they have all of their beers available which I think are nice – not stellar but def. solid enough – most of them are both draft & bottled. Prices are good. They also sell their beers to go. You can get a tasting tray which is rare in Belgium. Food is averagely prized, I saw lots of stuff with Gruut cheese & lots of dishes with beer including some I have never seen before with beer. I didn’t eat here. Overall staff probably rotates a lot so services might vary but our was very good. All of the breweries beers are available, good prized & great interior. I am very puzzled by the other low ratings, no idea what you guys were expecting but this place offered everything that you might expect from a place like this in my opinion.

met one of these guys at horecabeurs 2013, where he gave me some very nice info . so i wanted to visit the place, even though i’ve had all their beers .
interior is AWSOME . very clean, yet not a ’hospital’ feel . still cosy ! we sat at the bar , where we could look outside to the most beautifull glass door, plants and a very nice arranged ’terrace’ . toilets are mouths ( rolling stones type !)
we got some great info from one of the people here . we discovered he waqs ’ onley’ a student , so what must the real brewery-people be like than ?
calm, good prices. onley 5 beers are brewed here, unfortunatly , but i WOULD recomend going here anyways . to take a rest from ticking , and to drink a nice beer in a nice enviroment
