A nice place on the canal side. Right in the center of touristic Gent. A good beer list with no real rarities but solid selections. The house beer Gandavum is OK. Service is good.

Cosy bar just on the edge of the canal - very atmospheric. When we went there (the first time) it was packed with students - some of which seduced us to drink a Klokke Roland (no go!). The second time it was much more quite and we had a Liefman’s Goude Band, 1987 - interesting stuff. Nice, though not remarkable, selection. If in Ghent - go there!

A very nice cozy bodega - small abut not to crowded, with a good beer selection. Friendly tender. Hop, old beerbottles and beer commercials as decor. Friendly costumers. They even have beers made special for this place.

The outside practically screams tourist trap but when I enter I am pleasantly surprised. Downstairs is a cozy wood filled room, bit dark at first but cozy. I sit at the bar and make brief conversation with a couple of Americans. Bar staff is a bit aloof at first, but engage in friendly conversation after a bit. They offer to substitute some ham when i ask for my cheese plate without the blue cheese. It arrives with healthy portions of gouda or some sort of yellow cheese, a fantastic goat cheese, ham, and various salady vegetable accoutrements. Its larger than I expected and clearly meant for more than one person, but it made for a nice albeit rich dinner for me. Beer list seems decent, I didn’t delve into it to deeply, only having time for one of the house beers on tap, Gandavum which proved to be rather nice. Bartender gives a sample of gentse kop which Babelfish tells me is Ghent head, apparently its meat from the top of a pigs head... tastier than it sounds. Barstool starts to become uncomfortable after a bit, but I suppose that is the nature of bar stools.

Tight and cozy inside, can get cramped on the cooler days. Things must air out when the weather is nicer and you can sit outside. Nothing in the ye olde pub atmosphere to distract you from serious beer drinking. Service was very friendly. Get some cheese and sausage so you can sample some local mustard that burns more than any wasabi... then find the mustard shop at the local square to take some home. Solid beer selection, plenty of quality.

Great location, cozy, but quite smoky. I don’t think they have real food, but do get the cheese and mustard (be careful, it will give you a sinus explosion). Selection was pretty good. I did particularly like the dry hopped house beer.

Along with the Hop Duvel Cafe, this bar was easily my favourite in Gent. Situated in a lovely location by the riverside, cosy in winter and no doubt quite lovely in sumer months. Small bar, always quite busy when we went (which must have been 4-5 times) a very interesting range of beers if not as extensive as some bars. I really liked both house beers especially the Gandavum Dry hopped one. Very good and friendly service, good prices as well. A top notch bar in the centre for definite.

It was the time of "Gentse Feest", and the place was packed in a tuesday afternoon (both terrace and inside), with a band playing at the terrace. Luckily, we found the non-smoking room upstairs, which was completely empty. We sneaked in there after ordering a glass of Gandavum (sadly, they were out of the take-away bottles), and enjoyed a great view over the canal, the Gravensteen, and the people and band at the terrace - while resting our aching feet. Without the upstairs room, this would have been a nightmare - but like this it turned out great :)

Spent a long Friday night here, both enjoying the tables outside and then inside. A decent selection with some beers from some smaller breweries. The service was friendly, if sometimes a little slow (though this can be a good thing when drinking strong beers). Had a couple of platters that were OK as well. As some said, there are better, but still good.
