foodie1977 (2), , British Columbia does not count - explanation | | December 21, 2006 Food was great! Hostess was snarky, server did not want to be there. Great drinks and nice room. Food was excellent but pretty snooty! | | CapFlu (179), Victoria, British Columbia | | March 15, 2005 Ambiance and presentation are key at Chambar. Not the most obvious location from the outside, this restaurant looks dark and is on a secondary street - though once inside you see that it is a place for the young and accomplished to hang-out... and spend. Its pricey - very pricey. The portion of Elk Loin was very generous for $20 though the vegetables could have fit in a bubblegum wrapper. The beer selection was very limited at only 15 bottles. | | Oakes (421), gone rambling, Vietnam | | March 10, 2005 Pricey by beer geek standards (though the beer is reasonable), this is a stylish after-work spot. It’s very popular, too, and we were lucky to get a table without a reservation. Definitely call ahead. The food was delicious, the service fine. The staff aren’t pretentious either. The beer list is short but quality. Almost all Belgians. A nice, if pricey, night out. | | JoeMcPhee (262), Jackson Heights, New York | | December 21, 2004 [ Updated August 3, 2005 ] A new Belgian restaurant on the Vancouver scene. Located near Tinseltown, not far from the Stadium Skytrain station. What looks like a small front actually hides a fairly large restaurant/beer bar. Nice atmosphere, if a bit noisy the night I was there. The food is great, featuring Belgian inspired dishes, moules frites, bouilliabaise, pepper steak etc. There are some other dishes that aren’t really Belgian per se, but are very well done (lamb tagine). The beer list is fairly small, there is one rotating tap of "Chambar Ale", which I think was actually Granville Island’s Merry Monk, plus the standard 4 headed Interbrew Belgian taps containing Leffe, Stella, Hoegaarden, and Bellevue Kriek. They also had about 15 bottles, which appeared to be the best that the BC liquor stores stock, bud sadly nothing that I couldn’t get for a third of the price myself, Abbaye des Rocs, Binchoise Speciale Noel, Binchoise Blond, Saison Dupont, Chimay Red Cap, Echt Kriek, Petrud Oud Bruin and a few others that I’m forgetting right now. A nice addition to the Vancouver restaurant scene. |
