This was once a promising little place that just never kept up with the times, it’s still a good place to drink and has good atmosphere but they haven’t added new taps, they have a tiny selection, and simply aren’t doing what they could be to keep up. It might have been top of the list of Vancouver beer spots at one time right after it opened but now it would be lucky to make top 5. But still has nice neighborhood chillout vibe and although hipster is unpretentious.

This has been one of my favorite haunts in the past, but over the past few months, the food and service is iffy at best. While they were one of the first restaurants to openly promote craft brewing and decent pub food, they have not continued to provide the beer variety or food quality other restaurants are giving these days. I have been served Muhamara dip that was almost frozen and salads with hair in them. On other occasions, I have had excellent meals with not complaints whatsoever. The beer selection is okay, but not extensive. As far service goes, there is probably one server and the owner that deserve to be here... the others should be fired. I have waited for up to ten minutes for drinks and bills, and have been spoken to quite rudely when I have mentioned their inconsistencies. All in all, this place has to get it together! With more and more bistros like this opening up in the area , The Whip has to realize they’re not the only kids on the block anymore.

I like the space. Old building with character. People from all walks of life, but a big complement of hipsters & bohemians to be sure. Service was friendly and cute. Also lots of hipster eye-candy the last day I was there. Decent selection of brews. Food was good: they have puff pastry with pizza toppings. Enjoyable. I’ll certainly return if I ever get tired of the Alibi Room.

Not sure that The Whip really belongs on this list; they don’t really have any beers that can’t be found elsewhere. Could do a lot more with their space too. Food is well-enough, but over-priced. Even though its a couple blocks from my house, I go once in a blue moon.

Full disclosure: this is my local... The ambiance is funky DIY meets rustic cabin with local artists’ work adorning the walls. Service is always friendly, engaging and knowledgeable (not to mention darned attractive). While the tap and bottle list is small, they do showcase some BC micros and they do have the weekly cask night to bring in beers they otherwise might not have. Food is delicious with good sized portions for the cost.

First time there in a while! Sat at the bar had Georgia serve me. She was very nice, funny, made me feel comfortable! There is new ownership and they have made some changes to the room. For the most part it is still cozy but cleaner! New bathrooms that dont smell anymore, upgraded kitchen so you dont smell anymore when you leave. Still carrying the two local brewers R and B and Storm along with montreals Blanche de Chambly and one import. They have also started a Cask Night for the real beer drinkers in the city. They have had some amazing brews from all over the lower mainland and vancouver island. Great job guys i used to be a regular and have not been back in a few years. Got a mail out introducing the Cask night and because i love beer I went to check it out. My new sunday hangout!

Terribly friendly, ’roid infused male staff and delightful female server. Rustic interior with unique, spot-welded ironwork gates and windows giving an artistic atmosphere. Thick wood 3x3 tables, conference room chairs and abstract artwork adorn the rooms. The high ceilings and ambiance remind me of La Réservoir in Montréal --- though the service here is much better. Waitress informs me that their kitchen is reknowned for their consistently good food. Veggie Burger ($8) and Perogies ($8) came recommened; but I was still full from Dix. If I lived in Vancouver this would be my local hang-out.

Cool little place in East Van. Two levels of seating and food is pretty good. Not a massive tap list, but pretty much everything they have is quality.

Decent selection of some of the hard to get local beers.Food is ok, but the service is hit and miss. Have had beer gone bad on 2 occaisons now. Has had cleanliness problems lately, and apparently were shut down for a while.
